Hi this is our first time and am trying to work out a budget approx for dinners, what would be the average cost for a meal for 2 adults and i dd aged 10

Hi there,

Do you mean in the parks or offsite? Quick diner style meal or more formal sit down?

Prices vary lots depending on which of the above you fancy :)

probably be sit down on site and planning some off site not sure where yet as still looking

OK well offsite, we go to places like Denny's, Perkins, Chillis etc and we eat for well under $40 including tip (2 adults plus 2 children) for dinner.

I'll dig out some menu links so you can get an idea :)

Chili's

Perkins

Denny's

There are no prices on the menus unfortunately, but I would say $30 for the three of you is going to cover most meals in the above locations (I've not included anything for alcohol but $30 should give you an entree each and a soft drink).

You can eat even more cheaply at places like Ponderosa & Golden Corral who do all you can eat buffets, but I'm not really a fan so I'll let someone else tell you about those :) Lots of people rave about them so you are probably best to ignore me on this one ;)

Boma at Animal Kingdom Lodge was $25.00 each and 10.99 for a 10 year old including soft drinks.
Whispering Canyon was about the same

Rainforest Cafe was about $70.00 for all four of us (three adults one child)

Sizzlers all you can eat was $12.99 each and we got a child meal for $4.99

Mcdonalds cheaper than here

Ihop (international house of pancakes) meal for 4 including drinks about $40.00 all in

Cracker Barrell was good at around $50.00 all in for all 4 of us.

I wanna go back :sad1:

On last years trip we probably averaged about $100-$120 a day(2 adults + 1 child) most of it off -site.Breakfast & lunch were fairly consistent $20 & $25 respectively any extra on evening meal were eating somewhere with reasonable steak or seafood. Most nights probably $50 + tips, our faves are:Dennys,Perkins(both are good for b/fast & lunch),Olive garden,Chicago Uno,Bennigans,Outback,Bahama Breeze & Darryls

We just got back and ate at some really nice places and some less expensive - all on site. A nice meal avaraged $70-90 plus tip for the two of us, an average type of place eg Boma was about $55 plus tip. Don't discount counter service sometimes - some of them are great and you can get a decent entree for around$10.

We spent about £900 over 2 weeks.

I too am trying to work out my food budget and expect it to average out at £150 per day for 2 adults and 2 kids (the oldest is 11 so will pay adult prices). But, I am also going to check prices on www.wdwig.com - great site and really worth looking at the menus - as i haven't been for almost 5 years and the exchange rates were only $1.38 to the £ last time I visited - so everything was so expensive. Also check on Deb's site if you will be eligible for any discount programmes - we are getting an annual pass so that we can get a Disney Dining Experience card and get 20% off many onsite restaurants.

It is difficult to estimate based on what other people spend. There is a similar board on US forum, but many of them don't drink alcohol. I drink wine with meal every night on holiday, so this bumps up the price considerably.

Also, when working out your budget don't forget to add tax - 6 or 7% i think, and tips at 15%. This can soon bump up costs.

Typically, we tend to do one snack type meal per day, one counter service and one sit down meal per day and we work out our budget on those costs. It is impossible to do 3 sit down meals a day, due to portion sizes and the time spent eating would seriously limit your time in the parks.

It would also be a recipe for a heart attack :rotfl2:

We spent on average $40 - $50 for evening meals both down in Ft Myers and back in Orlando back in August. This was for three adults (12 year old DD does not do kids portions any more). This also included drinks - couple of beers and two sodas - most family restaurants offer free refills on sosa (I was driving most evenings, but on the rare occasion when I wasn't, I managed to strike it lucky and the restaurants were doing amazing cocktails, often 2 for 1 :drinking1 :o)

Unless you have awesome appetites, don't be fooled into getting a starter - these can often be as big as our entrees (main courses) !

The kids portions over there are very generous, they really do cater for children. Most family restaurants offer children their own menus with colouring sheets/crayons.

Bennigans is a great place for kids - you get "desert" in the basket too (a large shortcake gingerbread man wrapped in wax paper) and they have people going around making balloon animals/shapes for a tip.

Meant to add . . . if you are wine drinkers (like me :rolleyes1 ), it can be very expensive to buy bottles of wine with your meals in restaurants.

If you don't want this expense, do what our friends have done in the past - keep a bottle in your hotel/villa and drink it when you get back. You can buy reasonable wine in Publix. We brought some this year - Blossom Hill, Ernst & Gallo for around $5 for a LITRE . . . crazy prices, but very yummy.

Beer, however, according to DH is very reasonable
