I have a few questions for fellow Canadians who have travelled along the I-75 to Florida,
What is the Average speed that you driven? can i do 120 km/74mph all the way down?
Is it possible to drive from Toronto to Knoxville TN the first night?

I did the I-75 drive in February 2008 and I was able to do around 140km the whole way down. I did London Ontario to Macon Georgia on the first day in 15 hrs. Knoxville is definitely doable in one day.

I too was able to average 70-80mph the whole way. We went from hanover ontario to Dalton georgia in about 15 hours.

Hi, I don't know the speed, but if you go purchase the I-75 book, it will tell the speeds, pluss I love, it will basically show you where all the police love to sit along the way.

We just did it at xmas, be careful in Ohio I saw State Troopers every 10 miles or so. The rest of the trip no problem.:thumbsup2

Toronto - Knoxville can be done in the one day and it's something my family and I did a few years ago. The longest route my family and I went in one day was from Toronto - Dalton, Georgia which is at least 3 - 4 hours after Knoxville.

Ohio is the worst for speed traps...they tend to target out-of-staters too...if you have access to a CB radio, the truck drivers keep a pretty good eye out...BEWARE the language tho, if you have sensitive/young ears in the car! A lot of the drivers are turning off their radios unless they need something specific, due to a few losers who can't form a single sentence in english without dropping the f-bomb continually.

The other fail-proof is to watch the trucks...if they slow down all of a sudden, there's a reason! ;)

I'm lucky, as a truck driver's wife, I get treated with golden gloves by other truck drivers, and my Interstate trips are a dream!

I would recommend the Hampton Inn & Suites of exit 108, which is where my family and I stayed a few years ago.

not a canuck but i'm a Knoxvillian! yes, the hampton inn on merchants rd x109 is a good choice - also if u do stay there try Puelo's (just across the street) 4 dinner - fried green tomatoes!!! & other great selections - google them 2 see the menu

We also bought the along I75 book, and it is great - lots of neat trivia! For the most part it is pretty consistant at 120-130, with pockets of slower speeds, but then pockets where they are flying by you if you are driving 120 (Atlanta:eek: - and for some reason I am always the driver thru there:eek: ). We usually try to pick a fairly speedy car from the state to follow, and if it slows up, we do the same;) We even had one guy wave us back as we pulled out to pass him, and sure enough a cop right up the road. In terms of drive time, we are a bit closer to the border (well, right on it actually, in Sarnia) but we made it down to Adele GA last summer in one day. We were aiming for the FLA border, but just couldn't do it......We left here about 5:00 a.m., and finally stopped about 10:00 pm in the midst of torrential rain that we had been in since dinner. If it wasn't for the rain, I think we may have made our goal. I loved the long first day - short second day - we were at the resort just after lunch, which was great, since the kids were about ready to pass out from excitement, there is NO WAY we could have coped with an entire day of that! Anyway, even factoring in your drive from Toronto, I think you would have no problem! Have a great trip!!

Not fast enough....especially when you've been driving for ever! I always get stuck driving from Detroit onward (usually while dh and dd sleep...thanks guys) and I've also found that Ohio is by far the trickiest state. I usually srt the cruise control at about 110-115 and just let the chips fall where they may. i can make up the time going through some of the other states. If you ar driving in the early morning hours be especially cautious 3am-5am....not much going on and the roadways are flat and straight. I've seen alot of people get picked off at that time of the day. Happy commuting:drive: :car: :drive:
