I am trying to get my boss to revamp our sick day policy. At present, we have 5 sick days per person, no matter how long you have worked for the company. We are a small insurance agency. Most people have been there a long time with only 1 person there just over 1 year.

We do not get any personal days.

When you are sick with the flu, you can use those 5 days for 1 illness.

What is the average # of days most places give??

My DH gets, I believe, 3 sick days per year. I'm self employed, so I don't get any. I can only bill for when I work. That does get tricky sometimes if I'm down with something for several days.

I'm a public school teacher. :teacher:..I get 1 day per month. Since I'm a 10 month employee, I get 10 sick days/year.

We can use them whenever we like though. It doesn't have to be once per month.

I'm a teaching assistant in a public school. I get 10 personal/sick days per year. I can use them for either purpose. If I don't use all 10 in one school year, they carry over to the next year. I started this year with 13 days and have taken 3 so far.

I worked for the same company for 30 years. We got 5 sick days a year. The number of vacation days we received increased based on the number of years with the company, but sick days never increased.

I work of a major corporation. We have PTO - personal time off - to be used as sick days, personal days, and vacation. Full time employees start with 10 days PTO per year. If, for example, you take two weeks of vacation in the summer, you have no more days for the remainder of the year. Any sick days then would be un-paid.

My husband gets none... So I would love 5 days.

I get 0.

I get 2 personal days a year, and am exempt / salaried, so I get paid wether or not I am there. If I were to be sick a day or two a year it wouldn't be a big deal, but nobody at our company ( a very large and well know company, btw) gets any.

I am amazed that some people get 10-12 sick days a year. If you are really sick that many days every year, you have one weak immune system.

We get 6 per year. If you don't use them all, you can carry them over for one year.

I'm a teacher and we get 10 sick/personal days per year. That may sound great but we don't have paid vacation time, nor are we allowed to take personal days for vacations. Don't get me wrong, I think that we get plenty of time off! I just wanted to explain why there are 10 days for some of us.

I would think that many parents use their sick days caring for children who are sick as well. I know that is mostly what mine get used for.

The only time I have ever used all my days is when I had my children. (No maternity leave paid either.) Most years I use 2-3 days per year.

Do you have kids??:rotfl:

Im also a teacher and have 10 sick days a year. They carry over though-last year I think I used 2 sick days so im starting this year with 12

We get 5 sick/personal days and 10 vacation days technically speaking.
However, if needed vacation days could be used as sick days and reverse. We do not have to delegate which type when using a day off.

After you have been working here seven years the vacation days goes to 15.

No one said we use all those days. THat is what we earn each year. I get 1 1/4 days per month and it builds up until it gets to 30 days but no more than that. I might take one day per school year and a few times I have only used partial days. I have been sitting on 30 days for years!!!

Federal Gvernment you get four hours per pay period (13 days per year) and unused can be accumulated and carried forward indefinitely. When you retire any unused is considered additional time worked for the purpose of computing your pension .

I rarely used my sick days for myself. As a parent, you have to stay home when your child is sick. If you have more than one child, you could easily eat up your sick days.

I get 12 sick days, 3 personal days, and 25 vacation days per year. DH gets similar at different employer.

I get 10 sick/personal days and 10 vacation days. I will get another 5 vacation days in 2011 when I am there 5 years. Then it is no more additional time until I am there 15 years. The 10 sick/personal must be use during the year or you loose it and same with vacation. If you don't use all your personal/sick time - you will get 75% of your hourly rate after the 1st of the year for the unused time. Vacation - you get nothing - you would loose them. Nothing gets carried over. I have 7 hours left and will be taking it between the 18th & the 23rd, I want my full pay and not work - why settle for the 75% of your pay. We also get one holiday day to be used between Thanksgiving & New Years. You may tack on your personal time to your vacation time. We are also required to be out 1 full week a year. I work in insurance within a bank.

we get 2 weeks of your weekly hours.... So I work 30 hrs a week, I get 60 hours of sick time. But the company does frown if you use it.
