Average Bus Time: POP to Typhoon Lagoon?

On my upcoming trip I'll be getting to MCO around 3pm and then taking ME to POP. I was really really hoping to squeeze in a couple of hours at Typhoon Lagoon but now the Unofficial Guide has me worried that I might be out of luck.

According the the UG, the average time (door to door) from POP to Typhoon Lagoon is 46 minutes, with the worst case scenario being 61 minutes. As this is an average, I recognize that sometimes it could be faster, and others slower.

But even if I'm lucky enough to get to POP and in my room in about an hour. If getting to Typhoon Lagoon is going to take about 45 minutes, that would put me at TL around 5pm and it closes at 6pm that night! I just don't know that it would be worth it! I got the waterpark upgrade offered several months ago, so I'm not concerned about "wasting" a ticket or anything. I just don't know how much I'd really be able to do in an hour. (This would be my first time at TL.)

Does anyone know why it would take me so long to get to TL? I know it's not necessarily the actual bus ride but more the wait that the UG is factoring in. Am I to assume that the TL busses run much less frequently? Can you think of any other alternatives for me? (Hitchhike perhaps?)

Thanks for your help!

The TL bus from most resorts goes almost to Port Orleans (doesn[t stop there) and around the back past Saratoga Springs to Downtown Disney Marketplace before going to TL. It has to wend its way through a cumbersome maze there and again at Planet Hollywood.

I have read occasional trip reports that TL guests have to wait unusually long to get back to the resort. Not sure whether this is because the buses filled up at DD but I jumped to the conclusion that TL bus service could use a lot of improvement. In addition, buses get mired down in traffic coming down the TL driveway. I wish they would widen the ENTRANCE driveway and cone off that extra lane for EXITING buses during peak times.
