Ave Maria, Florida -- anyone else heard about this?

But really, the whole concept is against our basic right to privacy. They want to know what is going on in your home.
But not my home or your home. The homes of people who want to live there.

I never eat Domino's anyway- because I think it's gross, but now I have an even better reason. Sheesh.

If the founder of Pizza Hut starts a town, I'm in trouble. :rotfl2:

OMG me too!! I LOVE Pizza Hut stuffed crust pizza.

Yes of course it's weird. And I won't eat Domino's again either. I used to love it about 10 years ago. The last time I had it (just a few weeks ago), it was awful. We prefer pizza hut or something local.

Maybe it will end up being a Catholic town anyway. Now that their initial plans were made very public, who else would move there? I know a lot of Catholic families who would probably love to, though, and are probably looking into it right now. I'm not, but I wouldn't mind living in Celebration some day.

The ACLU is also looking into this big time. Rest assured it will get a lot of news (read FREE publicity) coverage.

I imagine that if you were interested in opening up a "home based birth control business" or were addicted to pornography or were completely against all the teachings of the Catholic Church, you wouldn't be interested in plunking down money to live there. I don't believe in the teachings of the Mormon Church, so I don't move to Utah or attend Brigham Young University. Seems pretty simple to me.

The guy doesn't OWN Domino's anymore. He sold it in 98.....

I don't like Domino's anyway so that's why I don't buy it now.

I agree, you don't like what they do in the town, don't move there. If you already know the 'rules' then you don't move there.

If it is not against the constitution.....

From what I understand - the lots are selling like crazy so I think it is definately an idea that interests people.

They were saying on the news yesterday, that much of the "moral code" will not be a law, but just a standard of living that they will ask people to follow. What happens in the privacy of the homes will be up to the homeowners, but public areas will be under strict control.

So in a way, I guess it is a cross between a Commune and a Restricted Covenant Community. It is a group of people with similar lifestyle and moral choices joining together to form a Community.

As long as they maintain the standards of The Bill of Rights and The Constitution --- I don't have a problem with it. I don't think I'd want to live there, but that doesn't mean I want the project blocked.

I know that. The reason I don't eat Domino's anymore is because I don't like it. Has nothing to do with the guy who used to own it.

Sorry Beth,
Quoted the wrong post... It wasn't you that I meant to quote.....
:)
I don't like their pizza either.
Just don't want people confused on buying THIS guy's pizza when it isn't HIS anymore :) LOL

So Pope Tommy I is doing this to "get into heaven"- yeah right, I'm sure MONEY had nothing to do with it......

If he really wanted to be more Christ-like and get into heaven, he should build homes for the homeless, free clinics for sick and poor, soup kitchens for the hungry, etc..

I would say that as long as the rules and regulations are very clear as to what would and would not be allowed, and everything that would be allowed is also legal by the bigger laws of the USA, and the folks who choose to do business with them are fully informed of each and every regulation, then they shoud be able to base their community on any principles they want to.

My guess is the thing that is bothering folks is that this is going to be based on RC Church principals. No one seems too distressed about the amount of control the Mormon Church has in Salt Lake City, or how strong Scientology is becoming in LA.

Now, if what they tryinig to do is illegal, that is a different story. Obviously, they can't build a town and fund its building and upkeep by selling illegal drugs or whatever.

The key here is making sure any participants are fully informed.

The difference is that there are no provisions in the leases of Celebration businesses that require them to display Mickey Mouse, or not sell Universal or Sea World merchandise. This guy wants to control many aspects of life in Ave Maria. I don't think anything compares, expcept maybe a commune.
And if you don't want your life controlled by the gentleman or his beliefs, then don't move your family or your business there.

One would think it would be simple, but then we couldn't Catholic bash, now could we???? ;)

Too bad it's in Florida where there are alligators, hurricanes and lots of bugs. :scared1: I'd love to move there. The lots are selling like hot cakes. Of course, I see nothing wrong with it and think it's a great idea.

FYI...he has done many many charitible things with his millions before this particular project got started. People can be so judgemental.

Just curious. What's the "draw" for you? Why would living in a Catholic community be better than living where you do now? You're obviously free to practice your religion anywhere. And I'm guessing you're part of a church community. Why would you be interested in this? I'm honestly curious about this.
