DH and I are headed to the movies to see Avatar and are wondering if it is worth the extra $ to see it in 3-D? Any quick opinions are very appreciated!:goodvibes

yes, I think so. I saw it in IMAX 3D and thought it was worth it. Have fun!

For us...Me, DH, and 2DS's, we didn't think it was worth the extra money. At the beginning of the movie there were a few "neat" 3-D effects but because it is so long (close to 3 hours)...DH and I had a slight headache. Although we didn't think it was worth it afterwards...I would probably still recommend seeing it in 3-D just for the experience. Let us know what you think.

My Dad said he saw it in 3D at the Imax and is planning to see it again! The movie does not interest me, but those we have seen it can only rave about the movie.

I am actually not sure. I saw it Imax 3D and really enjoyed it. I am not sure if seeing it "regular" would detract from the visuals. :confused3 Everyone I know has seen the 3D version. Just get there early enough so you are forced to sit too close to the screen. We saw it first showing yesterday morning and it was sold out.

There are some movies that are created in 2D then 3D is made later on. For example: Disney's UP

Then there are movies that are created to be in 3D and the director had 3D in mind when making the film. This is AVATAR

It is definately a movie you want to see on the big screen. The movie is good and well worth the extra 3D cost.

I was extremely sceptical when we saw it about spending the extra money. I really faught my DH on it. However, I'm glad I lost.

The movie was excellent and well worth the money it costs to see it in 3D. DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please report back and let us know what you thought.

Definately, and I am usually cheap and don't want to spend the extra $$, but DH convinced me and I think it was worth every penny!!

We saw the movie in 2D because DH is blind in one eye and can't see 3D. Anyway, I thought the graphics had too much going on as it was and I was really glad we didn't see it in 3D.

DD17 saw it in IMAX 3D and she said she got a headache.

Thanks for the tips! I went ahead and ordered the tickets in 3-D. We'll just pop a motrin ahead of time for the headaches--just in case! Can't wait to see it tomorrow! Thanks for the tip about getting there early so as not to be stuck too close to the screen, too.

I would take a Dramine/Bonine if ANYONE going has a history of motion sickness. We saw the 2D, and I got a little queasy, so I can't imagine how the 3D one must be! (And, personally, I thought the visuals were stunning, but the story just so so....)

Yes I strongly advise getting their early. I got there 30 mins early and the doors to the screen had not opened yet so I was the 4th in line. Needless to say I was able to get the seats I wanted :woohoo:. The theatre was PACKED too so I'm glad I got there early.

I took my son to see it today. I had no desire to see it but I loved it. Great special effects and 3D was worth the extra $.

YES!!! you miss alot of the magic without the 3d. Its a good movie but the 3d brings it more alive.

We just saw avatar 3D. I complain about the cost of 3D movies. This is an AWESOME movie!!!! All five of us loved it - may be the best I've ever seen.

We saw it on Imax 3D on Wed. for my birthday. I loved it! With the 3D a lot of the background is not as focused so I didn't have any motion sickness problems. It was expensive. We went to the first showing at 9 am and it was $9 a person.

The 3D glasses were huge and left a funny red mark on the bridge of my nose and my forehead. I had that mark for a couple of hours.

My DD10 and DS8 watch the first three Harry Potter movies and are fine with them. Do you think that Avatar would be okay for them as well?

TIA!
