Avatar Land Guesses for Opening?

we used to go every year but decided we wouldn't go again until there is a bit of newness to see. We thought early December 2016 would put us in the window for Avatarland based on their original announcement. I saw early 2017 as a date mention on a blog...but not a lot when you google Avatarland opening.

So..wanted to see what the current projection and thoughts are--knowing these dates are always moving targets and usually move to later not earlier.

My other window to go would be February 2017...we don't want to go then as it is a less desirable time of year for us--but we will plan on it if it greatly improves chances of seeing Avatarland.

Thoughts?

Are their current rumors on DHS and timing for newness there (I get that would be really rumor-level timing at this point...but curious if that is a 2018, 2020, or 2022 projection!)

I want to know as well. I remember reading that it's expected to be completed in 2017 but there are rumors that it might be 2020. Not sure if there's any truth to it. I'm trying to wait till 2017 but if it's going to be delayed, I want to go now!

I read somewhere that they are wanting to open it along with the release of the sequel which is projected for 2017.

The movie was announced to be december 2016. then this winter James Cameron said it is now December 2017. I can't imagine Disney pushing the opening of the land back an entire year...while it would have been synergistic to open with the premier--it seems still advantageous to the film franchise and Disney to let the land open before the movie...

But I guess it doesn't give the push for late 2016 anymore, huh? Early 2017...I fear means May 2017...in time for the summer breaks. We would go in the heat so that would mean December 2017 for us. CAN'T WAIT THAT LONG...

So now I need to rationalize December 2016...anything new by then? Disney Springs and Frozen ride ;) Enough to get DH to agree to a trip...(yikes! especially if lots of construction still...he won't be happy!)

I don't think the construction is far enough long at this point for them to give a projection date. Anything you've read thus far is probably just a date someone pulled out of their hat.

A better question is at this point how many people care outside of a desire for something new? Are people really anticipating Avatar?

Disney originally predicted opening as early as 2017 or as late as 2019. Since you ask for a guess...I pick spring 2017, in time for the peak summer season.

Speculation is Cameron's delay on the film has also slowed down his approvals and input on the Land. But they are just rumors, I think must of us hope to hear more official word about the DAK and DHS expansions in August from D23.

We are going in early December this year because seeing Disney at Christmastime is new for us. Our next trip will be Homeschool Days in the fall of 2018. I enjoyed Avatar and am looking forward to seeing what Disney does with it. I hope it is open early 2017 so its a little less crowded when we go.

I am. I've never been a huge avatar fan, but I enjoyed the movies. From what I've seen in the discussion of plans and my anticipation for them recreating Pandora, I think it will be a really great addition. We're heading down October of 2016. A little soft opening of parts of it would be nice, but obviously I'm not holding my breath seeing as most things get pushed back farther than anticipated.

I am certainly waiting with worms on my tongue.

I'm excited. I am not an Avatar fan but the land of pandora is beautiful and I think it will bring some much needed mystique and excitement to Animal Kingdom Park. It certainly is something I will plan my trip around to try and hit if I can.

I heard early 2017 so I was hoping it would be opened for spring break crew. We started going to Disney every year but now we were planning on skipping 2016 in hopes there would be a lot less construction in 2017. I know Disney Springs is due to be completed in 2017 and the new Frozen ride in 2016 sometime so now just hoping for Avatarland to be done in 2017 as well, lol...to me 2017 looks like the year to go if Avatarland is completed by then

I'm super excited about it. I love the Avatar movie, and Pandora is absolutely gorgeous. I think it's a perfect fit for AK, and there is so much potential for this theme. I can't wait!

Back in February Disney stated they hope to have it open in early 2017.
