Honestly? I'm not entirely sure as to where to put this thread. I had considered putting it in the Rumors board but I feel like I'd need to have some sort of credible backup, and my only basis for this idea is coming off of the WDWMagic forums.
But, nevertheless, I feel like there could be good discussion to come from this idea. Now, due to the fact that Avatar Land is so utterly...polarizing (love it or hate it, it seems; your mileage will definitely vary), could there be the idea that Disney could simply be getting Fox to pay for the construction of the land? After all, Avatar could be the 'launching point', so to speak, for this land. Once the Avatar hype is gone (if it's even still here, because tbh I haven't seen any Avatar hype in a long while), could Disney try and refurbish Avatar Land into Beastly Kingdom?
If the hype is gone, the excitement for Avatar Land may eventually quell like the hype of this franchise may do in subsequent years. What would happen to Avatar Land, once it's readily built, when the hype for the franchise dissipates completely? Will it simply fall into disrepair? Become a dilapidated feature of the park most won't even look at, much like Dino-Land has become (save for DINOSAUR)? Or could Disney - hoping to squeeze some extra dollars out of a lucrative concept of imaginary beings - decide to refurbish the Land to make it have a wide range of mythological creatures involved, rather than just Avatar aliens?
I don't really like Avatar as a whole, so perhaps this idea is the whiny angst of a teenager over how her favorite Disney park is getting an area she doesn't like. But, really...the *Animal Kingdom*. Avatar's aliens aren't even a part of this world. The Beastly Kingdom seemed to feature Cryptozoological animals; animals that, while haven't been proven by science, still hold onto the Earth due to their tie-ins with various cultures. And while Avatar's creatures aren't Earthly beings, this - along with the success of Expedition Everest - may give Disney the idea of recycling the Beastly Kingdom concept. I know that they say the idea was scrapped in the end...but, well, given the abominable snowman, and now aliens, how far off would it be to see dragons, sea monsters, gnomes, or fairies in the future?
