Avatar coming to Animal Kingdom

Ok I can't believe I'm the one doing this but.... Can't everyone be happy DAK is getting another land. A land which the movie is based on will have sequels that new rides can be based off of.

I'm the biggest Doom and Gloomer out there an I can even see this is a good thing. DAK is at best a 3 hour park this will help at that and lines at KS and EE.

Thus is an exciting time to be a themepark fan.

Rumored to open at UNI around the same time as Avatar is WWOHP 2 and Transformers!

Thus is a good thing!

I can't see this as anything but a huge positive:thumbsup2
AK gets some much needed attractions...and it's based on #1 movie of ALL TIME with two sequels to go coming out around the time the land opens...

BTW, my kids have now begged me NOT to have to go to AK on this trip coming in April, because it's "soooooo boring" except for EE and Dinosaur. They don't even want to go to Epcot this trip...especially if TT is closed..."boring again".

We are now staying off-site this trip and spending our vacation dollars at Universal and Sea World. WDW NEEDS this and I think it will be spectacular.

When I told my 13 and 11 yr olds that AK was getting a whole land based on Avatar, they were crazy excited and wanted to go for sure to AK...I had to sadly break the news that it wont be open until 2017:eek:

AVITAR is not Disney....I go to Disney to see Disney. AK needs more but what the heck has AVITAR to do with AK?

I have to say, reading into Tom Staggs statement after D23 doesn't hint at this... but the fact that he responded at all and even specifically mentioned "timing" puts his statement in a new light, since they obviously must've been close to a deal on this at that point (and maybe were hoping they'd have it done in time for D23:

"We’re working hard to create new and exciting experiences for our guests around the world and while the timing isn’t always right to announce another big project, we like to use opportunities like the D23 Expo to update fans like you on the great progress we’re making. We have several incredible projects currently in the works and look forward to sharing more information with all of you in the weeks and months ahead, including new details regarding Downtown Disney in Florida."

I thought he was just blowing smoke. I think that was the consensus around here... but, indeed, he meant it when they said they "have several incredible projects in the works."

What is "Disney" then? Things that only originated within Disney's buildings? If that's the case, there is very little that is Disney, actually, beyond Mickey Mouse and his close friends. Most all the princesses are derived from fairy tales that date WAY back, so they can't be Disney. The Pixar films? They originated at Pixar, which wasn't a Disney company then - Disney only distributed the films.

You must avoid DHS like the plague - it's covered with non-Disney. Star Tours, Indy, Twilight Zone, Aerosmith, Great Movie Ride, American Idol...

Moving those CMM attractions - moving the character trails is easy, while moving Festival of the Lion King will be more difficult

Do you suppose they will replace FOLK with "Avatar: The Musical"? I know the movie wasn't a musical, but neither was Finding Nemo...

Just a random thought.

And keep far away from the Magic Kingdom: Winnie the Pooh, Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, Br'er Rabbit, Tom Sawyer... and, as you mentioned, all those princesses and Pixar's Buzz Lightyear.

Disney Hollywood Studios. that is the name used to be MGM... fits the theme here...except for American Idol, never go in there.... and agree about Aerosmith too
Disney produced those those movies with the fairy tale characters, and the Pixar movies are associtated with Disney.

You said Avatar isn't Disney How are you ok with Indy, American Idol, and Star Wars?

Indy iffy on that again go when we bring someone new, other than that no do not go... American Idol no connection, Ok with the Star Wars

Not looking to argue, just stating an opinion are we not all entitled to that?

AVITAR is not Disney....I go to Disney to see Disney.

Others have said it...but my 2 cents. I don't think any of us go just to see Disney related products.

MK - Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain, BTMRR non of which had anything to do with a Disney show or movie. They also took a awesome attraction not based on a movie (ExtraTERRORestrial Encounter) and added a Disney character (Stich) and completely ruined it.
Epcot - I suppose you skip this park completely. Nothing Disney here but Finding Nemo.
DHS - Star Wars, Great Movie Ride, ToT, RnRC, Indiana Jones. I guess you just ride Toy Story MM and go home?

The point being - Disney isn't just about who originated the concept. Some people that are hating on "Avatar" on this thread are implying that if Disney came up with their OWN concept it would be fine - but don't like it because it's someone else's concept. Disney could have come up with their own fantasy/mythological concept and that would be OK? What I'm saying is whereever it came from - it's the EXECUTION that's going to matter. Song of the South is no-one's favorite Disney movie, if they've even seen it - but Splash Mountain is loved by many (including myself). So before you say "dumb idea", why don't you instead say "Great there's going to be more to do there! I'm not sure I'll like it, but I'll wait and see."

OK - speaking of "dumb idea"...reminds me of the Simpsons "Planet of the Apes" musical. "Stop the planet of the apes, I want to get off!"

"I hate every ape I see,
From chimpan-A to chimpan-Z,
No, you'll never make a monkey out of me!"
(I did have to look that up!)

lol that had some great mucis!!! Rock Dr. Zaius!!

wow this is a nice surprise! Seening the boards on all of the different sites there was no rumors of a $500million plus Avatar Land. We had BK, Tron, Frontier land expansion, Monsters coaster, Star Wars Land and another country in epcot that all seemed to be logical expansions. Iger and TDO came way out of the left with this announcement. I am sure they had the cash set aside for a AK expansion if Avatar feel though i am sure BK would of became a reality.

now i guess we can all speculate what attraction, shows and where this Avatar Land will be.

At least the morale of the story Iger is willing to spend money inside the parks.

Don't burst my bubble... we may yet see Epcot and DHS announcements in the not-too-distant future. (I still think a Star Wars land in DHS is logical and do-able.)

Amen!
