Avatar advice needed

We got in line at 8:25pm on a 9pm closing night. The posted wait time was 85 minutes. We went through the regular queue and were finished with the ride and out of the ride building by 9:00.

Thanks for the report. Would you have had time to jump back in line and ride it again had you wanted to? I'm hoping to be able to ride twice in 45 minutes or less later this year.

This is definitely something that could only be done in the evening.

I know on both of our late night attempts we could not have gotten back in line, as they were directing us out of Pandora.

The earliest we got in line was 30 mins before close, though.

But I do doubt that you'd be able to get in line 45 mins before close and get on and off and back on again.

So I am bringing my son to AK for one day to see the Avatar land (he loved the movie) but I haven't gotten FP+ for FOP. I have one for the Navi ride. I don't know if I should keep looking for one or not because I know he will want to see the full queue and FP+ skips all that. We are planning on going 12/21 if that matters and there is no way we will be at rope drop before 8am. He has been to Disney many times but not since Avatar was added so that will be the main focus. Any thoughts on how best to manage this without hours of waiting?

If you can't be in the park at least an hour before RD, I don't think its worth it.

Jumping in line 30 mins before close is a way less stressful proposition, if you can stay up that late.

But clayfolks said that they got in line at 8:25 and were done and out of the building by 9. Since the park closed at 9, this is a pretty good indication that it is possible to ride twice at the end of the evening.

If I were shooting for twice, I think I'd get in line closer to 8:00 than 8:30. When we got out of the ride building, they weren't yet directing us out of Pandora.
