If I call SW, will they tell me how many seats are still unsold for a specific flight? Or would it be a waste of time. On the website it accepts at least 8 seats I'm just wondering how many more are available.

They will not give you an exact number. They are pretty general about this.

Thanks....that's what I figured. didn't want to jam up the phone line for a stuipd question.

Zurgswife.
If this is for your Monday flight I think your bigger problem is that SW technically does not allow standby travel at all. So even if they have seats, it's going to be up to the kindness of the gate agent. (I have never been successful, but have the kids looking pitiful might help.)

Yeah but through monday they are allowing people to fly standby. I did call and verify that question.

COOL! I missed that.... (I don't have any flights until late August)

I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

I flew last year on SW shortly after Hurricane Katrina. Our original flight was out of New Orleans and we were rescheduled on a flight out of Houston. (We were given the option of Houston or Jackson, MS.) I didn't take as long as we thought it would to get to the airport in Houston, and we ended up getting to Hobby early enough to catch an earlier flight. The gate agent was very accomodating. Even though we had Ding fares, he got us on the earlier flight at no extra charge. (It was a little pixie dust to start our trip. pixiedust: ) Maybe TMI, but the point is that it never hurts to try. The worst thing that could happen is that they tell you no, and you have to fly on your scheduled flight. if there are still 8 seats left the night before, I might try it. The only real question is whether or not you would be willing to get to the airport early, and have to wait for the later flight.
