Inventory management does not just move inventory around according to whim. There are very strict guidelines to keep Member Inventory and Developer Inventory separate. Longtime members generally know & understand that as exchanges are made by
DVC members, this can greatly impact the amount of cash inventory available. For example, if I use 400 points to book a
Disney Cruise, DVD must take 400 points worth of inventory from my home resorts and move that inventory from the condo association (member inventory) to developer inventory in order to sell that inventory for cash and pay
DCL for my cruise. So there would be a little jump in cash available inventory because of my booking. Does that make sense?
Long, long ago I worked the infamous teamline and I can tell you that when we were in real need to try and "pull" a room from developer inventory to the member inventory we would have to contact inventory mgmt and ask if they could help by moving inventory for us. Many times it just plain could not be done. There are a lot of governing rules that put parameters around moving inventory from one side to the other.
As others have mentioned, it is entirely possible that some rooms are being taken out of inventory during the OP's dates. I do not recall the number of value studios at AKL, but I believe it is a pretty small number, so if there is any work being done on this category it could make a larger than average impact on inventory during those dates.
Since the OP got varying answers, it is a good idea to call back and try to speak with a lead. Not sure that it will change the OP's situation but hopefully they will get answers. Good luck!
