My family and I are heading to Disney for the holiday. I needed to add a day to the tail end due to flights. I am DVC and usually use points. I naively thought I could just add a day through CRO. NOPE!!!! They have zero rooms that can hold our family of 5. I was shocked, to say the least. I have a waitlist and eventually found a room through DVC cash but am still holding out hope I can find a cheaper room. What do you all think my chances are? I also have a waitlist through DVC as another backup. Could it really be true that most of the 44,000 rooms that Disney has are already booked????

Yep, it can be true. This is by far the busiest time of the year at WDW. I will tell you our experience from about 3 years ago. We decided late in the year (Sept/Oct) we wanted to do Disney for Christmas and we needed 2 - bedrooms. Went online and nothing was available so we wait-listed and made a back-up plan just in case Disney did not pan out. On 11/21 - about 31 days out from our check-in date the rooms came available and we were able to book them and enjoy our Christmas at Disney. So there is hope.

I don't know where you are staying and if you would want to switch hotels for the one night but if you haven't already done so I would put in a second waitlist and maybe do SSR or OKW - these are the ones most likely to come available.

I did book a one bedroom at SSR for that night so we know we have a room but would love for the waitlist to come through. Thank you for the hope :)

The economy is improving and guests have the money to do things they haven't done in while. Thus, Disney hotels are booking up for Christmas holidays.

Gotta be honest...

ANY ONE trying to book at WDW, NOV 1 2018 - JAN 3 2019....
You are more or less screwed. There is very little left. You are pretty much too late.
Now, I'm SORRY for this... but truth? You really need to book WDW a GOOD 8 months in advance.
I am sorry if I have upset anyone.

I think it's because you are trying for only one day? I looked at Christmas week (23-29) and almost all hotels had some sort of availability.

You can book, but you will not have the choices that are available 8 months out. I am not at all sure how DVC works, but the cash resort rooms still have availability, however the one night reservations that will work for a family of 5 and are available on the specific night the OP needs are probably few and far between at this point

No, not upset here. I booked the rest of my vacation 11 mos out per DVC rules. Sadly, the plane route changed days and times so we now need an
extra day. I totally get booking early ;)

Is it because you're looking for a studio?
I really want a studio but right now have a 1 bedroom. Nothing is showing up available though. I will keep checking for a studio. I was just surprised that the hotel itself doesn't have very many rooms left.

Not for a family of 5. I called in and had a selection of VERY pricey rooms for my choices ( think $1200 on up....lol)
