Have two 2-bedroom units booked for next month at our home resort of Saratoga Springs for 11 guests. Went on-line to order magicbands. Was surprised my choice of magicbands was limited to a little more than a dozen, only one of which was a solid color. All the rest were more expensive designs. My grandkids like to pick their own color.

Called guest services and was told that in order to buy the solid colors, I needed to order them through "reservations". Called reservations and, due to long wait times, requested a call back. Got a call back about an hour later from the "on-line help" dept. The person was friendly and said he had to check with his colleagues. Came back after a while and said that, unfortunately, my only option was to order from the limited styles available on-line, unless I wanted to wait until we got to WDW and purchased them from a retail store. I should mention that we have tickets and reservations for four theme parks during the week that we are there.

He indicated that the first person I spoke with misinformed me. An alternative would be to have the other adults in our group use My Disney Experience to get into the theme parks by creating their own accounts. I would have to call back and transfer the profiles and tickets to the new accounts. But it seems a lot easier and flexible if I could just have the tickets embedded in individual magic bands, which is what we have been doing for years.

Is anyone else having similar problems? Anyone have any suggestions how I can purchase solid colored magic bands prior to our trip? Thanks in advance.

There will be no issue getting solid color MB . Either go to resort gift shop or walk over to Disney springs once you get to the resort . Shops are open till11:00ish or get them the first morning at resort at your first park

The general shortage of computer chips is often cited as one reason for the general shortage of MBs available for order through MDE or Shop Disney. The stores onsite seem to have a better supply but possibly not as extensive as normal.

Just so you know, everyone can get a plastic card at the resort to get into the room and parks even without a magic band.

My guests did not have MDE accounts and they just used that which they got when we checked in.

Once there, you can decide to purchase if the ones online are not what you want.

But what is the price if you get it on-site? The pre-order price for the original solid colors was $5. Now none of them are available. Only the more expensive ones.

Solid color went up last year as I paid $10 for a few for guests.

Still slightly less than in the stores.

Just recently I thought I saw the original solid colors (like plain red, yellow, blue, orange, green, pink, etc) for $5. But all the newer solid colors were $10 (like raspberry, white, black, navy, teal, etc).

Am I wrong about that? I could be, but I thought it was recent.

I know I need to pay for so much more than I ever paid for before for this upcoming trip. But I really can't stand paying for 4 new magic bands when I have 50 in a drawer. (The 50 are all assigned to the 4 of my immediate family, but I would be buying 4 new bands for the 4 people who are making their first trip).

There is no way around this right? No way to use some of those 50 old bands for the 4 new people?

Sorry, no, MBs can’t be transferred from one person to another.

Someone recently posted a photo from the store on the Boardwalk. The prices weren’t clear, but I think the solid colors were around $20.

Like you, we have a drawer of old bands, and yes we definitely took 4 bands randomly on our last trip in July 2021, and the VGF staff simply programmed/enabled them in seconds for each of us.

I was going to quote people but I think that would be more confusing.

If I have a Magic Band sitting in the drawer because I got it on a prior trip -
I can use it again on my next trip.
But I cannot assign it to someone else to use on their next trip.
Once a Magic Band is assigned to someone in My Disney Experience, it cannot be transferred to someone else.

That is my understanding. I have a trip coming up in June, we ar not getting new bands, we'll reuse ours from Thanksgiving. I have no immediate plans after June, but likely will not be buying any new magic band for future trips until the batteries completely die i the ones we have. It is convenient to have the batteries working, even though the band will continue to work at places you need to tap, the batteries are what activate the automatic photos going to your phone, and the names at the ends of some rides.

You are correct- I've been watching the selection of magic bands as well for our upcoming trip and there were a wide variety of solid colors for $10. I checked on Friday and noticed there were so few options right now.

Thanks for all of the helpful replies. Will most likely purchase the solid color MBs the first day we arrive, either at the airport, the lobby store or take a stroll over to Disney Springs. The grandkids will be with me so I'll let them pick out their favorite solid color.

Remember that solid colors at the parks are $20, so if some of the fancier preorders are $20 or less, you may want to let them get a fancier one before the trip.

I was just looking at pre arrival magic bands for my son and there is hardly anything left! Does anyone think they will replenish the selection any time soon?

Selection is likely being affected by global supply chain issues which includes an ongoing shortage of computer chips.
