Availability for last minute rooms- no availability

We have recently moved to the area and (on several occasions) decided we want to stay one night in Disney. There is barely ever a room available for one night (friday or saturday) at a value or moderate. At first I thought it could have been sold out for SWL or food and wine but it's been months lol. What's the deal? Are value and mods sold out every weekend? Are last minute short stay rooms just not an option?

Yes, values & mods can get booked up due to higher demand for affordable rooms. Groups (cheerleading, band, etc.) often like to book these less-expensive resorts en masse.

Disney resorts overall have a much higher occupancy rate than non-Disney hotels. Maybe book a little earlier next time?

Have you tried hotwire and Priceline mystery hotels . If you pick right area its pretty easy to work out what resort. Disney hotels include airport transfer and dont have daily fees listed

I’m wondering if it would be better to call to try to make a last minute reservation in this case, as the website seems to get glitchy (possibly by design) for shorter stays.

Disney's resort reservation availability algorithms sometimes aren't kind to one night bookings.

its probably the short stay, not that the hotel is actually sold out. I've seen where a room is available for four nights, but if I put in two nights it no longer shows up. If you see that you can call and see if they'll override that algorithm to book the room for you. Sometimes they will, sometimes they won't.
