Anyone know offhand if these book up early, like the standard view at BWV's do?

What time of year are you asking about? Christmas and Easter book up very quickly, so you must book 11 months in advance. Most other times of the year are much easier. You could book now for summer, for example, and find a studio if you are somewhat flexible on dates. You could even book at the last minute if you aren't picky about which resort you are staying at, although I wouldn't suggest that approach if it's your only vacation this year. I have even called on Wednesday for the following Sunday, although that's just a last-minute get-away.

We would like to stay at the BCV in a studio August 10-15. We're pretty limited on dates because my husband (a firefighter) had to sign up for his vacation already and that is when he picked.

You should be able to get August now, especially if you call MS next week. It was in August last summer when I called on Wednesday for the weekend, and they had it available. There are more members now, but also more units released into DVC. Most members don't usually go that first couple of weeks in August, because the rates go down after the 15th, and they would rather go then. Good luck!
