good news - bad news

According to Florida Today Amtrak broke ground yesterday for a new $10 million station at the Sanford end of AutoTrain

unfortunately the article goes on to say the new station will be in the same/existing location and during construction "passengers can wait for the train in a tent."

Plan acordingly - this could be a wee bit warm in the summer months ... or damp should it rain. Then again there wasn't all that much room indoors at the old station either.

Completion is expected in the fall of 2010.....

We rode the Autotrain last summer and the tent sitting area was already in use. I actually thought it was nicer then the old dirty waiting area. it had A/C and was very comfortable.

We rode the autotrain last week. Both the tent and the permanent areas were packed full. It was a VERY hot day, the tent had A/C and was about as comfortable as a very packed waiting room can get.
The train was near sold out on our return trip with snowbirds and college kids.
