How many people can there be before they add this on. We are a party of 6-consisting of 2 adults , 13 year old, 10 year old, 2 year old, and an infant. I would think that we are a party of 5. Have not decided if we are dong the dining plan yet. Looking at numbers.

I would think it would be based on the amount of people ordering, not necessarily the amount of people sitting around one table together, but I could be wrong. In other words, you are obviously not ordering anything for the infant and the two-year old might be eating off someone elses plate or not but either way, I would only think this would be 4 or 5.

You're a party of 6. You're occupying a table for 6. Why wouldn't you expect to be subject to the automatic service charge?

18% is a normal tip. You really should be budgeting for a normal tip even if you don't purchase the dining plan. Four guests ordering, but sitting at a table for 6, shouldn't be tipping low.

As Lewisc posted, you are a party of 6. They don't care if only one of you are eating, if you show up with 6 humans, then the auto grat will be on your bill. We know this for certain as we have been a similar size many times, but use to include 2 infants. We are traveling in May with my daughter and family and will be 4 adults, a 2 year old and 11 month old and the auto grat will be on all of our checks.

I never said i would be tipping low. We are very good tippers and have never stiffed anyone. I was just curious on the policy-that is all.

As two other PP's said, you are considered a party of 6, and the automatic gratuity will apply for your group.

Nobody is questioning automatic tipping for an INFANT??? Please tell me this isn't true. So if a family has a newborn????? I can see a toddler because they will eat something, even if it's off of Mom or Dad's plate, but an infant?!!!

They will add it on including the infant, I understand the infant is not eating. But they will still add it on..

The tip will be added to the total of what is ordered, so if the infant doesn't order your tip won't be any higher. Assuming you would have given them an 18% tip.

Infants have always been included in party size at Disney restaurants. Back when the auto tip was for parties of 8 or more, they counted the infants. They also count adults who don't order, as long as they're sitting at the table.

We are a party of 6, youngest was only 8 months old on his first trip to Disney. Sometimes gratuity was added and sometimes it wasn't.

Question, did you have ADR's for 6 or did you do walk ups? I would think the only way it wouldnt be added is if the ADR (if their was one) didnt reflect the party size + infant. Curious!

Sometimes they seem to forget to add the gratuity.

I would think that once they got to the restaurant, the party size would be changed to include the infant.

Edited to add: According to the poster's signature who has the 8 month old, their last trip was in August 2007, before the autograt went to parties of 6 or more (that was in effect on January 1, 2008).

Well... no, I guess we aren't. First, an infant is liable to be messy even if they don't eat. Between the drooling and the napkin shredding I have seen babies create chaos with no food at all. :) Aside from that, by taking infants to the restaurant, just like anyone else, you are tying up seats. The bigger tables need to generate income at a higher level. Just like taking adults who weren't eating, taking an infant takes up a space on the server's workload and not taking that into account would be unfair. Does that make sense?

Once again unless the infant orders something the tip will be no higher with them included in the head count. Assuming you would have tipped 18% of the total if the infant hadn't be there.

Every person at the table counts as a person.

Also, the automatic gratuity is added to parties of six or more, no matter how you pay for the meal.

Correct. We took our 2 grand daughters as I mentioned earlier. One was 2 and the other was 12 weeks old (about 3 months). We were a party of 8 (last year the auto tip was for 8) and yes the tip was added everytime. Eating was 6 adults + 2 year old + plus infant sometimes in a carrier, sometimes in a stroller. Doesn't matter if it's a walkup or a ADR, if they seat 6 the tip will be automatic, it's as simple as that.

On our trip in 2007 my in-laws were with us so we were a party of 8. We had some ADR's (called PS back then) and some meals were just walk ups. We always requested a table for 8 but the server is the one who enters the amount of guests at a table, sometimes they would put 7 and sometimes they would put 8. It didn't really matter to us since DS didn't eat table food at that time we didn't order anything for him so the bill was the same if it was 7 or 8 people and we always tip well, I'm a former waitress and I know how little they are paid and how hard it is to be on your feet for 8 hours a day.
