I was thinking of having my DS get a pillowcase autographed this trip instead of doign the traditional autograph book. Has anyone done this? What kind of pillowcase and markers did you use? Did it work out well? Any tips for doing this? Thanks!

There was someone in line for stitch right in front of us last week that did this. They had a pillowcase and some sharpies. They bought one of those cheapo embrodery hoops and had the pillowcase stretched tight in that so it was easy for the character to hold and sign. I'm guessing they just put the pillowcase in the hoop everytime it was ready to be signed.. that way the signatures would be evenly spread out and it makes it easy for the characters to handle. I loved the idea!

I think if we went again though I'd get one of those plain 9 inch vinylmation Mickey's and use it and a sharpie for the sigatures.

We did this with t shirts a couple years ago. We used fabric markers though, I wouldn't use sharpies. You'll need to make sure you get the biggest thickest markers you can find, the characters have a hard time writing with thinner markers.

Honestly, I won't do it again. It really was a hassle to keep my kids shirts from getting wet, always taking them out, finding the spot to have the charaters sign it. We used a stitching hoop, and although it's not a big deal it does take time to adjust it. You need some times of mechinism to keep the fabris tight. The characters can't hold it and sign it at the same time. And honestly some of the characters had a tough time with it.

But...it is nice to have when all is said and done. I have just vowed never to get autographs again. I think the kids get way more interaction with the characters without them, since the character have nothing to do they are forced to do someting with the child.

I have some fabric markers from AC Moore. I think those would work. Good idea on the embriodery hoop. That would make it easier for sure. I like doing the autographs because it makes my son want to go up to the characters!

I was going to suggest an embroidery hoop...they are super cheap...

We bought a single color (orange with Mickey icon) baseball type hat for our DS6 & had the "big five" sign it when we ate at Chef Mickey's. We used the click sharpies & the characters didn't seem to have an issue with it. He wears it often & I see people checking it out. I like this better than the autograph books because this is something you can see & use regularly well after your vacation is over. For the other characters we encountered, we got special maps of each park & had them sign those respective to the park we were in.

we did pillowcases last year for our 1st trip and our kids still sleep with them on their pillows and look at the names and talk about the characters that signed them.

we used fabric markers for the characters to sign with and no one had problems. some of them picked their own colors they wanted to sogn with or my kids would just hand them one.

we just held the pillowcase and stretched it for the characters. everyone had a good time with it and it is a great keepsake. much better than a book that would have been tossed to the side.

We did this on our last trip and it was (and still is) a HIT!

We picked up decent quality pillowcases (at TJ Maxx/Marshalls) for cheap and then used the clicky-top Sharpies to have characters sign. The clicky ones are a bit bigger and we had no problems with any of the characters signing them.

We kept each pillowcase in a gallon ziploc with a piece of heavy cardboard that we used as a backer. We found that this worked better for us than an embroidery hoop and it also took care of the potential issue of the marker bleeding through...

My girls still sleep with them and look at them all the time! (Which is more than I can say for our autograph books.) We plan to do more of the same on our next trip!

We did this in December, and they turned out really cute! I bought pink pillowcases at Target and got a couple fabric markers. I tested the markers first on an old t-shirt to see which one made the cleanest lines (no bleeding). At the parks, I would put a clipboard inside the pillowcase and pull the fabric tightly around to the back. For most characters, I would just hold it for them as they signed. A few characters took the clipboard out and asked us to hold it stretched out as they signed, and that worked fine too. We kept the whole bundle in a big ziploc bag until we needed it.

We had two pillowcases autographed in January, one for princesses and one for costume characters. My mom got the plain white pillowcases and fabric markers from Walmart. There were 6 colours we only used the darkest ones (yellow didn't show up very well). The markers were very large so they were easy for the characters to handle. We put the markers and pillowases in a ziplock so it was very convenient. I don't think I'd want to carry around a hoop but that's just me ;)

My DS and DSIL did the t shirts when they went last month. They bought a WDW 2010 shirt for it. They had the clickable sharpies and used a piece of cardboard to back the shirts and they did great. The boys really liked them and they looked very cute.

We've done this, too. We had rigged a piece of heavy cardboard to clip the section of pillowcase around, but one handler did have us just stretch it out with him.

We used Sharpie, and my only tip is to run it through the dryer to "set" the colors before you wash it. (We didn't, and the light blue bled just a little.)

Good point! Never thought about that...could you imagine waking up one day and finding mickey mouse acrossed your forehead :lmao:

I love the hat at a character meal idea! Thanks! My son would love this -- and doing it at just a character meal seems very manageable. Great idea!!:thumbsup2
