Do you think a three year old really needs an autograph book? It'd be one more thing that we have to lug around. We didn't do one at WDW last year when he was two... What does everyone think?

It would be a nice thing for your child to have, but if you plan on going back to Disneyland or Disney World in the near future I guess you really don't need it

we used the book to get our kids to actually go up to characters when they were young. they both at times were freaked out by some if not all of them, but with a book and pen in hand.....we had no problems. go figure.

We won't be back to Disney for a couple of years because we are having baby #2 this December, so we want to make this trip special. I was looking at homemade autograph books to buy on Ebay because I am not crafty with scrapbooking at all, but I would want to have a cool autograph book for him. Any suggestions?

you usually can get discounted autograph books at stores around town. cheaper then what you would pay for at disneyland itself.

Our first trip to DL, our kids were 4.5 years and 19 months. They both loved their autograph books. My 19 month old ds was determined to see Buzz Lightyear. When we ran into him in Tomorrowland, he wasn't doing autographs yet. But my ds kept pulling the autograph out of the bottom of the stroller and running up to him, saying, "Buh! Buh!" He couldn't say hardly any words, but he sure got Buzz down pat. When I started to leave without Buzz's autograph, ds started to cry. So we waited. I wound up chasing Buzz all over Tomorrowland, when he came back from a break. But darn it, we got that autograph for my 19 month old.

So yes, I would suggest an autograph book for a 3 year old. If you want, you can get one that has picture slots. It doesn't have as many pages, but you can put a picture next to each autograph, of your child with the character who signed. I think it's just $12 for that style.

Can you buy the autograph book with the pic slots at Downtown Disney? We plan to head there the night before our first day at DL and right before our reservations at Goofy's Kitchen.

Yes, that's where we got ours before we went to DL. It's nice having the picture slots so it creates it's own little scrapbook for you.

my daughter will be close to 4 when we go in december and I will be making a autograph book for her. I think this will be a nice thing for her to look back on when she gets older.

I think it really made the trip for us even though our kids are much older, We made a homemade one we found on the craft board here. Our friends bought theirs but, my dd 11 said she liked hers better because when the character saw the print out of them on the page they really made a big deal about it. Stitch took it and ran off with the book to show a cast member gesturing that was him. Cruella made a huge deal holding it up screaming "THIS IS RESPECT PEOPLE"
Just my thought

I would love to make my own but wasn't sure how to. I get out of school in nine days and I'll have a few weeks of down time before our trip. Any help would be greatly appreciated!:)

Jacobsmommy -- do you have a scrapbooking store near you? Maybe if you contacted someone in the store -- they could help you put together a cool autograph book. Here is what I want to do for our next trip ~
They have cute little "mini albums" in all kinds of shapes (square, circle, rectangle and all different sizes) -- they are called "chipboard albums"
Most scrapbooking stores have a special Disney section with all kinds of cute Disney papers. You can pre-make pages for characters you are likely to see and then do more generic disney pages for other characters.
If you want to see some cute examples, I have seen some on www.twopeasinabucket.com (I am not affiliated with this website in any way -- just a fan!) You just click on "peanut gallery" and then there is a gallery search box on the top of the screen -- type in Disney mini book or Disney mini album -or Disney autograph book - you will find some cute ideas!
I got the autograph books from the park for my then 6 and 3 year old daughters. They had an absolute blast collecting autographs and they are great for character meals. They are the best souvenir, I think! :goodvibes

I didn't bring a book, I cut colored cardstock into 4x6 squares (same size as the photos I get) and put them into a plastic envelope intended for holding a stack of photos. My intent was to bring a mini-clipboard to clip it on for autographing, but I forgot to bring the clipboard, so we just used the plastic envelope as a flat surface. It worked out OK. I used the 'clicker' Sharpie pens in different colors. I tucked the signed squares into the back of the envelope.

This method was very lightweight and easy to carry in our backpack, though required a bit more handling at autograph time.

I'm a scrapbooker, but if you aren't and don't want to trouble yourself, you could just assemble the photos and autographs into an album with slots for 4x6 photos.

I put the boys' photos and autographs into an album that would barely fit 2 per page, so some pages I cropped the autograph to fit onto the same page as the photo (and it's very cramped), and some are on facing pages. Next time I'll get a bigger album!

I was 2.5 my first time to DL and my mom made me an autograph book. {I don't think they had them back then} I loved it. Mine was SO simple and I helped make it. The fun thing is to see my hand writing along with some of the Characters and yep I asked some of the cast members to sign it too. I loved mine!

:yay:

Are these also sold in DL?

Yes, they are just about everywhere. We got ours last week at the Emporium (the store next to the fire station as you enter Main Street). That is our favorite store....they have tons of stuff there. I wanted to make sure my DS got his right away as we entered the park. There are usually a lot of characters right there and we wanted to be prepared.:)
