autograph books

I think the moral of the story is if you want to dance with Tigger or have chip and dale argue over your autograph book then you should do just that - whatever age you are and if that's not what rocks your boat then that's fine too.

Funny thing: I just stumbled over a very similar thread on another board! http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1015069&page=1&pp=15

I love meeting the characters. In trips past as adults my husband and I haven't been really gunho about it just got in short lines. This year was ds's first trip to DW at 2 years old. Let me tell you that we stood in as many lines as possible so that he could meet as many characters as possible. We didn't do an auto book because of his age. It was just as exciting for my husband and I to meet Mickey as it was for DS. My husband has never met him and I hadn't met with him since I was a little girl. We fought over who got to take him up to each of the Winnie the Pooh characters. Honestly I think you forget that these are people dressed up...you are in the moment and these CM's are so into their characters it really is priceless!

As someone said, LARGER sized pens or markers work best. You can find Disney-themed markers about everywhere now. On our last trip, we had Tinkerbell markers .. a pink one for my younger daughter and a purple for my older daughter. That way we were able to easily identify which book was which just at a glance.

Also, we don't use little flimsy autograph books. You can often find sturdier spiral bound small scrapbooks approximately the same size as an autograph book at places like Michaels or scrapbook stores. The beauty of these is that the paper stock is much heavier and you don't have to worry about ink bleeding through. (So, if you want to use those large/fat sharpies, you can with NO problem) Additionally, we make a big deal about then scrapping the pages after the trip ... we try to leave the page across from an autograph blank for journaling and a pic.

Also ... if you are getting autographs, just observing common courtesy will help the line move along ... have the book out & open to the page ... have your pen ready (IE ..if the cap needs to be removed, do that BEFORE you get up there) ... have your camera set & ready to go.

If you observe a little plain ol' common sense, there is no reason EVERYONE who enjoys meeting characters can't do so ... regardless of your age or the age of whoever is in line behind you. Sometimes, only our kids meet characters, but other times we like to get a family picture for our scrapbook.

Since I love Disney as much if not more that my children, I have absolutely no hesitation about enjoying whatever aspects I want to .... even if others believe their should be an age limit on some things.

To whoever posted the Walt quote about a trip to WDW being family time & adults being kids at heart ... all the young-at-heart adults who love to meet characters thank you!!!!

Don't get me wrong I *love* meeting the characters.. I do character dining and I have no kids. I do stand in line to meet and snap a quick photo with a character. In sept, the racoon from Poc. was at EPCOT.. meeko? grabbed me and started dancing all around with me. It was a VERY empty day in the parks and no lines for character meets.. very fun:)

I don't mind anyone of any age who wants to wait in line to do it WHAT I do mind is the family that waits in line for 15 minutes and when it is their turn only then finds the book and then can't find the pen, then encourages said "only child in the park that day" to talk and pinch the character for ever then get autograph and then pose for pictures from Mom and Dad who happens to be waiting across the street and of course doesn't have camera ready! Then when my child walks up quickly poses and as I snap their darling runs back in for another hug and they think it is so cute URGHHH
Like said before have book open and pen ready, focus or frame picture while book is being signed and when character is done signing kid poses you snap and are done, Is that so hard. I guess it must be.

I was just wondering - has anyone had any experience with the autograph books from the Disney Store? My aunt bought the princess one for my daughter for our upcoming trip and I am a little unsure about it. I like that it has the slots for pictures on the pages, but the spot under the photos seems small for the characters to sign. I was also unsure about the glossy like paper. If anyone has used this book can you offer any tips? Thanks alot!
