We are taking autograph books for the girls this trip and I was wondering what kind of pen people and characters prefer?
:confused3This may seem like a dumb question but I have seen a few posts about how some characters don't/can't use larger pens etc...Is a simple ball point good enough or something else?

I would use a fine point sharpee. It writes very easy so you don't want a fat one and it doesn't require the pressure of a ball point.

Also I'm not sure what characters have hands that make it hard to hold a pen. Mickey can hold a thin pen and has big hands. Some characters can't do signatures and some can only do them sometimes. If you are unsure ask thier handlers.

There have been some comments about Disney frowning on the use of permanent pens/markers because it can permanently stain the costumes. However, we used a Sharpie pen on our last visit and had no problems, but most of the characters did want us to have the pen open and put it into their glove/hand.

I used a click top pen that I got from a local festival! I just happened to have it in my bag the first day when we forgot our special "tinkerbell" pen in the room. Turns out, the click top pen worked great. All of the characters were able to hold it well. We filled up the whole book using that pen! :cool1:

I have seen these comments too, and for other reasons as well. However I've brought them into the park and there were never comments that they weren't allowed.

We use those big fat ballpoint ones that they sell with the books. Never once had an issue with 'em, and they work great. I use them around the house too. They add a little Disney magic to the to-do, shopping, etc. lists :)

Washable Crayola Markers!! We give each character a color that matches them... looks really cool in the autograph books.

Sorry for the hijack..... do most of you use a Disney autograph book? Or just a plain old dollar store one? ;) I assume you can buy the Disney autograph books in the park?

:thumbsup2
Gosh, thanks for all the replies!!!
I think we will take a fine point sharpie (our house is known for sharpies :rotfl2:) and throw in a couple thin washable crayola markers as well in case the sharpie pens are frowned on.
You guys rock!
I made the girls books from some downloads on this board. I went to Vistaprint and made a photobook. I just got them in the mail. Thinking of posting pics on my trip report. They are really cute but was afraid of the right pen because the pages are "slicker" than the normal autograph paper. i don't want smudges...

that is really cute!!

thanks JH87, but I can't take all the cresit for the pictures...just the layout.
I noticed your avatar and I have a great page with all the villians with a cool stormy grey background ;)

how'd you get the cover logo so large? I've been looking for that photo forever!

I am not the most computer savvy person but when making the photobook I edited that page and increased the picture size. :confused3
Do you have that image? If you pm me I can try to help you.
BTW: Vistaprint is super easy to use to make photobooks and the price can't be beat. When I made mine they had a 40% off deal. The shipping is quick and the quality is as good as snapfish or the likes.

Wow! Very cool! Great job.

Good job on the book -- I also really like the cover photo. We used a Disney Encyclopedia book and the pages were the slick book pages --hence the Sharpie use. I have my doubts on how well a crayola washable marker will mark on those pages. Perhaps you should do a test some how.

We use the encyclopedia too. I'm fairly certain the washable markers will smudge on those pages.

Table for 5: That's a great idea using the photobook to create the autograph book!!! I tried to create my own using the Creative Disigns pages but when I priced it out at Office max (just to print the pages) was sooooo expensive. We are going to WDW next year during Halloween so I'll use the Halloween autograph pages to create one for the kids!!!

Thanks! I agree with the markers on these pages...will stick with sharpie :thumbsup2

I was originally going to print the pictures and try to "bind" them myself. I was shocked on the price just to print the pictures (becuase I wanted so many characters ), so I started to play with several sites to make photobooks (kodak, snapfish, walgreens) and they were also sooo much more than I was willing to pay. I had a problem because I didn't want to leave any characters out. :confused3
I ended up making the 8 x 8 book with 3 pictures on each page...
The book ended up having 40-something pages...:rotfl: We will be using them for a few trips now so that is why I added Halloween pages and some Christmas themed pages too.
This book should last a while :thumbsup2

My personal favourite is the "clickable" Sharpie. I never have to worry about removing or losing the cap.

My funny story about such a Sharpie was during a Mickey meet and greet at his house in Toontown. I had our autograph book and pen ready but forgot to "click" the pen out. The character handler started to give me a hard time - "you should have removed the cap!" when Mickey turned to her and held his hand up in a Stop gesture. Then he held up the pen in front of her and tapped the end to show how easy it was to use the pen even with big gloves on. :lmao:

No I don't have that image :( I am trying to find at least a medium size of that retro logo but can't seem to find one that isn't a tshirt print
