Autograph Book Alternatives

So I'm reading about all these autographs and thinking I'd like some sort of alternative as the book idea isn't appealing to me personally. I saw the pillowcase idea which looks cute. I also saw that some said T-shirts or caps which also sounded great. I thought perhaps there are other ideas I hadn't thought of so anyone have any other ideas you've tried for autographs?

I have read on the Dis Boards, of course, of people also having canvas bags and picture mats autographed. Also a baby blanket, I believe. Also, some folks had individual scrapbook pages autographed and scrapped them at home w/ their pictures.

I read about this on another board and I'm still looking for the Plate paper. Remeber those plastic plates we made in like first grade for our folks. You drew a picture on the template paper and the teacher sent it in and VOILA you got back you design on a plastic use it everyday plate. Well somebody brought the plate template to WDW and used it for autographs then sent it in and her kids each have a autograph plate to use for dinner. Image this with the birthday mat from Chef Mickey's too too cute. Now if I could find the plate by me I would buy them out.

easy for them to sign (stubby fingers).
For a T-Shirt you may need a fat marker and a
cardboard backing (unless you're wearing it).

I've heard they can't sign anything that's currently being worn.

Also, for fabric stretching, would something like a cross stitch hoop work? You just put it on the area you want the character to sign, make the fabric taut, and hand them the hoop and a fabric marker. MUCH easier to carry one of those around than one of those t-shirt boards!

I'm going to make a banner (think like medieval castle wall hanging type) with a stylized Cinderella's Castle painted in the middle. I was planning on buying an embroidery hoop and using it as described above, to give the characters a surface to sign on. Then, when we get home, I finish the banner (I'm only going to bring the top layer with us - less bulk to carry) and hang it on the wall for everyone to enjoy every day

Here's our plan (which we read about here on the boards).

We are going to take 3x5 note cards. The character will just sign the card and then we'll get a picture of our kids with the character.

We are then going to get a photo album with plastic slots for pictures. Picture will go on one side and the card will go on the other.

That way we can combine the photo album and autograph album into one.

The plate sounds like a cool idea. But there is no way you can fit all the character signatures on there. The "fluffy" characters have very large signatures (get my point, I don't want to ruin the magic ). So maybe you should plan to have your favorites sign the plate paper and have something else handy for the other characters. The princesses and other face characters are able to sign in a small area.

I don't know how young your kids are, but when my sons were younger they really loved to have something for every character to sign as a way to break the ice when they first approached them. I really never expected them to care so much about getting signatures.

Thanks for all the ideas! I love the plate idea but definetly would worry about space issues. Perhaps ds could have Peter Pan sign his and dd, Cinderella. They'd be in heaven.

I was planning on the plate paper for a character meal, and a book for the rest. To those of you with experience with this (this is my first trip collecting autographs!), would that work, or still not be enough space??

Hmmm... I'm not sure about the size, but I just got a catalog today from Oriental Trading Company that had 4 pages of "hands on fun" with MANY blank/white items that one could collect signatures on. The white baseball cap they have said "one size fits most" with an adjustable strap, and they show a child wearing it who look about 6 years old. Probably too big for toddlers. HOWEVER... they ALSO HAVE bucket hats, canvas banners, coin purses, kids' aprons, lanyards, canvas drawstring backpacks, other canvas bags, place mats, etc. They also have a make-your-own quilt that looks like a lot of fun and like something you could get really creative with. The only problem is that you often need to buy large quantities, but many items are still not that expensive (e.g. a dozen caps for $14.95, or $17.95 for 2 dozen canvas quilting squares).

They've also got many kinds of fabric pens and paints - you should at least check it out for that stuff!

Oh, my gosh, did you see the autograph t-shirt pillow!!!! SIX of them for 14.95--problem solved here!! What a cute idea and you could use them for throw pillows in child's room! Thank you for that link; I hadn't even thought of Oriental Trading for this!

I got this idea from somewhere on the boards...I got spiral bound 4x5 scrapbook albums. I will let the kids decorate the cover with stickers. The book has facing pages, so we will Use one side of the page for the autograph and one side for a picture of the child w/the character. Then that will be their scrapbook from the trip.
