Autograph book advice needed

Hi friends!
We are going in Oct. and I was thinking about using a 5x7 scrapbook for autographs with a page for each character and adding pictures after our trip.
So when all is said and done I would probably have an autograph book and a trip book- My two BFFs are Disney freaks(I mean this in a good way ) and they both have tried to talk me into just collecting autographs in a spiral bound book and then taking them out later and putting them in the big book-One of them went on to say that it would be easier than carrying a scrapbook around in our bag. Honestly, how much trouble is a 5x7 book to carry in a backpack? and would it really be that much trouble for the characters to sign(it would have a hard back on it)? I need some nonpartisan advice cuz I'm kinda of the along for the ride kinda girl in our group but I don't want to be sorry later for not going with my original idea.
Any thoughts?

My daughter is making a scrapbook with her autographs and what she did was use a regular autograph book and then we scanned the autographs into the computer and printed them out.

This way she can place them anywhere on the page of the scrapbook along with the pictures that go with the autograph. Also, we didn't have to destroy her original autograph book!

We have the autograph books approximately your size. The characters had no problems with our books. I had them sign inside of castle shapes and they all seemed to like it. Remember, many have stamps because they cannot see too well. Carrying along the small book is not too hard. The ones that they sell in the parks are about that size, btw.

As for the spiral-bound paper, is it acid-free? I would want to make sure of that, too.

I would go with your original plan. You might regret not doing it your way later. If you are still on the fence, then just have one signature per page, nothing on the other side and then you can put them in your scrapbook if you decide to go that way.

Your idea sounds terrific, just make sure they leave you enough room for your photos. Some characters will use all the room you give them, and it may not be enough to add a photo later. Maybe stick a post-it where you want to put your photo so they don't sign that part.

Here's what I did for our autographs:
I LOVE Creative Memories products and used the 7x7 Disney album for my autographs books. I did not want to carry a large album with me (one for each of my kids), nor did I want to risk ruining the albums (scratches, spills, water rides, etc.) so I cut CM paper into 4x6 rectangles and placed them, along with CM's round tip pen, in a zip bag (much lighter than an album!). I kept it all in my fanny pack and just pulled out a slip for each character. When we got home I put the autograph on one side and the picture of the kids with that character on the opposing side. They each had random pictures they wanted in their books as well, so it's a bit more than an autograph book- it's truly a memory book!

We are going back in September and this worked so well in 2004 I'm doing it again! Best of luck on your search for the perfect autograph/memory book!

BNf2 -- I was thinking about doing what you did. Did the characters have a tough time writing on just a piece of paper? Didn't they need something hard to write on?

I held a stack of my pre-cut scrapbook papers for the 'furry' ones; the face characters had no problem. Another poster- sorry, I don't remember her name - said she was going to take one of those mini clipboards for this method; I think I will try that this trip. What I did before worked well, but that will make it that much easier.

I did autograph books last year and I have to say I wasn't that excited about them. I love the idea I just think it is very time consuming. I noticed when characters were getting ready to leave they had a tendency to take a few more quick photos if people didn't want autographs. Also a problem was my son saw all the characters write in that book so in the 2 seconds our backs were turned at the hotel that night he thought he should write in it too. Bad idea! This year I am going to do the character pictures and make my own autographs with the cute signature stickers. Well at least Mickey and Friends and the Princesses come that way. Plus I travel to the parks as light as possible. I avoid backpacks whenever possible. Just my credit card, park ticket and camera which fits in my jeans pocket so bringing the book everywhere was a little cumbersome. No offense the all the people who love them. Great concept just not exactly for me.

I just returned from Disney a few weeks ago. I prefer to scrapbook on 12x12 sheets so I decided to create my own autograph book so I could then incorporate the signatures into my larger book. I bought some blank 4x6 index card and put some clipart of each character on each card. I punched two holes in the side of each card and bought the ring binders to attach the cards to make it into a book. We then had each character sign their page with their clipart (they thought it was great and the kids loved it). (I also brought about 8 different colour Sharpies to colour coordinate the page). I now plan on cutting on the side off the card with the holes and then sticking the card on my 12x12 sheet with the picture that I took. This way I can put either one or two signatures per page and scrapbook what I want and incorporate it with the rest of my pictures and end up with one album instead of two.

Problem: DD and DS are willing to have the same character sign multiple times. Yes, you too can have 4 Aurora and 4 Woody signatures if you travel with my two. And each time needs a new page.

I also added a bunch of blank cards in my book so allow for multiples of the same character (so the kids could keep getting autographs) but I will only scrapbook the one with the picture on.

I cut several tags before hand 3x5 and 4x4 they are small enough to put in a ziploc bag so they don't get wet. I took the used ones out at night.
You can buy the brown mini clip boards at Staples. Walmart also had some colored ones with school supplies but I'm not sure if they are still there since they started putting halloween stuff out.
