We're taking the Auto Train in December, so I've been checking the schedules periodically. They have been somewhat late in the past, but this week the train has been up to 10 hours late!! Does anyone know what's going on? I hope this is a rare occurance or my husband will kill me. He wants to fly. :worried:

That happens with the auto train pretty regularly, especially in the summer it seems. no answer to the lateness this past week though. Maybe something to do with all the brush fires in Volusia County?

Oh, you're right! I never considered that the fires could affect the train. I'm a bit of a dimwit sometimes! :thanks:

I am getting worried about this, too. I am taking the AutoTrain in the next two weeks, and these fires could really start affecting things. Geesch! When I went in October, I got hit by a hurricane, and now it's drought and fires. Can't win! :(

There are only two set of Auto Train equipment, so when one train is excessively late, it guarantees that afternoon's departure has to leave late as well, which delays the next days train, and the next. Figure 5+ hours (minimum) to service the train at each terminal; when you have a train 10 hours late (rare, fortunately) it may concievably take a few days to get things back to normal. The same trainset which was 10 hours late May 5th was still down 4 1/2 hours this morning at Lorton.
