Auto Gratuities w/large party - Will it be split?

This will be our first trip with a party of 9 family members staying in 3 rooms. We will all be on the DDP. How does the auto gratuity work? Do they split it among the 3 bills?

I think you each will get a separate bill and 18% will be added to your individual bill based upon what you had/ordered.

If you ask for separate checks, and the total number of people is six or more, they will add 18% of the individual check amounts to the individual checks.
