Auto Flush Toilets?

Baby Granddaughter is visiting and we are taking her to WDW in three days. Yesterday we discovered that she is really terrified of the auto flush toilets. She is almost three, and is mostly potty trained but this terror of these toilets is going to be a problem.

We bought some Post Its and her Auntie took her to the potty and covered the sensor with the Post It but she said it flushed any way. Did we do something wrong or does the light sensor go right through the Post It note?

Also is there a list any where that will tell me where there are non Auto Flushing toilets?

Help! :)

Bring some post it notes or stickers to put over the sensors on the back of the toilet. It will prevent it from flushing. When she is finished, pull off the post it and it will flush.

We cover the sensor with either a post-it or simply a long piece of TP draped over it. Rarely has the auto-flush occurred before removing the post-it or TP, but once or twice that has happened. Not sure if we positioned it incorrectly or what.

However, keep in mind that if it's the NOISE of the auto-flush, she is likely to react to other stalls. We bring headphones for DD, as more so than the actual flush in her own stall, it's the sudden noise from other stalls reverberating throughout the restroom that blows her mind.

Enjoy your vacation!

I think it is a combination of the flushing action and the noise. Until she had a terror melt down, I had never paid any attention to how very loud they are!

I guess DD may have just positioned the Post It wrong, so we will try that again when she is not in the stall.

Are any of the toilets in the park non-auto flush?

There must be some because I find this:
"Please note: many of our restrooms use automatic toilet flushing equipment which may be loud."

But no indication of where the manual flush toilets are. I simply don't recall, maybe we just didn't use the "right" restrooms to find manual ones.

My girls hate the auto flush - even at 6 years old. They call them the "flushing without you" toilets. You may want to try the the Baby Care Centers. They all have bathrooms and I may be remembering wrong but I thought that they were non-auto flushing.

Almost all the restrooms use the autoflushers - that includes the Handicapped stalls and the Companion Restrooms.

It is important to look for the sensor. Some are not where you expect them. Some also have a button that sticks out and can be pushed if you are sitting back.

First Aid at the studios has a restroom with a manual flush.

I "think" MK babycare center has one still.

Epcot babycare should also have the manual flush (they did last time we needed one).

Haven't been to Baby Care recently. And, you never know when one of the ones with manual flush will be switched.

Oddly enough I have been working on updating my list. As of August I know the FA at HS has a manual flush. I was in BC at Epcot last week, but the restroom was out of order.

When you have it complete, I can add it to the disABILITIES FAQs thread if you want to share it.

Sure, no problem I even have pictures.
Great.
I have pictures of most of the a Companion restrooms and had started a restroom thread, but then my copy of Photoshop stopped working (and I got too busy).

Thanks for all the ideas. This is going to be one interesting quick long weekend trip. We leave this Wednesday and we are doing MNSSHP on Thursday. I never dreamed potty training was going to take a sharp turn off course! :confused3:thumbsup2

I know Narcoossee's bathroom had a manual flush...for further info, read my trip report :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Yes, the noise fro the other stalls is very loud. I was already for my DS5 (pretty newly potty trained, he has autism) armed with sticky notes. We get into the stall the first day, he's just about ready to take care of business. The toilet next to us flushes, and he bolts out of there so fast. Had a major melt down and wanted nothing to do with the toilets there again. It was so hard. We had to take him to the companion bathrooms (which there are not anywhere near enough of) and he only went when he was desperate. And sometimes we had to leave the park and go back to the resort.

So, depending on your granddaughter's depth of fear and how easily she recovers from her fear, you may want to avoid the regular restrooms at first and start off with the companion restrooms.

Oh Narcoossee's.
.. one of my favorite places for a romantic dinner.....oh yeah that is the trip in November, not this one! :rotfl:

Thanks for the non auto location though. It is always good to know. I suspect her meltdowns are going to be very unpredictable but we are going to do our best to avoid things we know freak her out.

Most of the time I need a stall with a sink to handle my own medical potty problem so a companion bathroom might kill two birds with one stone. :thumbsup2

Epcot UK (as you walk towards Canada from UK) has a two stall (always a wait!) women's bathroom with manual flush. No clue why I remember this! It's an older looking bathroom inside. It's right off the main walking path - easy to find. HTH.
