Subject: Put your autism questions to Anthony Bailey, Rita Jordan,
Dawn
Wimpory and Glenys Jones

Hello,

On Monday, October 4, 2004, you will have the opportunity to put your
questions to four top autism experts. Just make a note in your diary now
to visit Autism Cymru's pioneering website, Awares, at
http://autismconnect.c.topica.com/maacG9jabanIla59AbAb/ on Monday,
October 4, 2004.

Key details:

* Venue: http://autismconnect.c.topica.com/maacG9jabanIla59AbAb/ - then
click on the Seminar Room
* Date: Monday, October 4, 2004
* Time: 09.30 - 17.30 British Summer Time
* Cost: free to all and online

The online seminar features the participation of four top specialists
in the
field of autism research. Don't miss this invaluable opportunity to put
your
questions live to these leading authorities. If you prefer, you are
welcome
to come and participate without asking questions.

The participants:

Professor Anthony Bailey:

Professor Bailey is an internationally recognised authority on the
genetic
and neurobiological basis of autism. In 2002, he was appointed to
England's
first endowed professorship (the Cheryl and Reece Scott Professor of
Psychiatry at the University of Oxford) devoted to research into the
causes
and cures of autism. He has been involved in twin and family studies
of
autism and helps to co-ordinate the International Molecular Genetics
Study
of Autism Consortium. Dr Bailey has also made important contributions
to
defining the neuropathology of autism.

Professor Rita Jordan:

Professor Jordan is Professor of Autism at the University of
Birmingham,
where she runs programmes of study (campus-based and by distance) for
professionals and parents working with individuals with autistic
spectrum
disorders (including a web-based programme for carers and practitioners
and
a module for educational psychologists) and supervises research. She
has
written and researched on many aspects of ASDs and has been involved
in
training events, consultations and conferences all over the world. She
has
served on national and international task forces and working parties
set up
by governments or professional bodies to review evidence and offer
advice in
relation to ASDs.

Dr Dawn Wimpory:

Dr Wimpory has been jointly employed by the North West Wales Community
Health Care Trust as both (Consultant) Clinical Psychologist for
children
with autism and related developmental disorders and as a Lecturer
(Practitioner) undertaking research into autism, as well as offering a
clinical service since 1987. Dr Wimpory is interested in the
facilitation
of pre-verbal communication with young children with autism,
particularly
through support for social timing - for example, through musical
interaction
therapy. She has written autism-based publications in the fields of
social
communication and its remediation together with genetics. She is a
member
of the National Assembly for Wales' External Working Group in
developing the
All-Wales strategy for ASDs.

Dr Glenys Jones:

Dr Jones is a Chartered Educational Psychologist and Lecturer in ASDs
at the
University of Birmingham. She has been engaged in research into
educational
provision and interventions for children and adults with ASDs for over
twenty years and has been involved in producing national and
government
guidance on practice in ASDs. She is Co-Editor of the Good Autism
Practice
journal, published by BILD, and is the author of several publications
on
ASDs.

Looking forward to seeing you on Awares next Monday.
