I’ve seen kangaroos and wallabys there. I think Koalas are pretty rare in American zoos, not sure why, maybe a limited export thing like China and pandas.

Koalas do eat eucalyptus, certain varieties of it, anyway. But, they also eat casuarina, paperbark and other similar Australian natives. As a result of this limited diet, the cost for overseas zoos housing koalas is rather steep. There is also a Koala Ambassadorial Agreement between the Australian and US governments, which allows certain accredited partner zoos to import koalas. There are few zoos on the list. Most koalas in US zoos can be found in San Diego.
At the moment, there are red kangaroos in AK. There have been Eastern Grey kangaroos in the past, as well as wallabies. I have a very vague recollection that there may have been a frill-necked lizard or a tawny frogmouth at some stage, too.

I figured something like this with regard to their diet & cost associated to feed the little guys. I read a bit online after posting my question & read, as you said, that San Diego seems to be where most US koalas reside.
It would be nice to see one in person some day. They are adorable but I think not too friendly, kind of like Stitch
Thanks for the heads up about the other Aussie animals at AK!

Koalas are solitary. They don't always enjoy the company of other creatures. They also tend to sleep away the day, a trait that is due to the low amounts of energy provided by their fibre-rich diet. They sit in their tree and digest rather than socialise! But, if you hug one, watch out for their claws. They will think you are a small tree and try to attach themselves to you!
