Aussie Disneyland Planners come on in and lets plan together :)

Wow so much useful info here for us aliens here! Only found this thread recently after being redirected by Jade.

Wondering if its possible to show the thread on the Australian subsection as well??!?! So others can also share in the wealth of information, seeing as there are also pearls of wisdom on DCL and WDW on top DL.

I've just spent a week reading this entire thread! Every time I thought I'd skip to the end, I came across another great tip and would decide to keep reading so that I wouldn't miss anything. So thanks to everyone for all the advice and tips, it's been really helpful with my planning.

We are a family of 5 (kids are 10, 8 and 6) from Perth. We are travelling to the USA for 6 weeks in June/July next year. We'll be visiting both WDW and DL as well as NYC, San Fran and Vegas.

I must say how jealous I am reading about all of the cheap airfares that you get from the east coast! It's so expensive to travel to the US from Perth. Granted we do get the cheap deals to Bali, but I don't want to go to Bali!

So far I've booked our return flights to LA with QF. I only had to book 3 tickets as we got 2 on FF, but those 3 alone cost $8000 :scared1: This trip is going to cost us an absolute fortune but it's something that I've wanted to do for years and we are all very excited :).

As far as accommodation, all I've booked so far is The Swan and Dolphin Resort at WDW. I've got so much more planning to do and I'm really enjoying all the researching and planning :).

Hey there. We just got back from all the places you are visiting except for WDW, please feel free to ask anything and all the best for a wonderful holiday.

Thanks Ms Shuttergirl :). I'm in awe of your pictures! It looks like you had a fabulous trip! I think we have a bit in common - my daughter is a dancer as well (I think I read the same about yours?) and we travel for her competitions. She's actually dancing at WDW while we are there :). And my sons are both very picky eaters which is a struggle when we travel. I'm hoping that they will be open to try more then fast food when we're in the States - I certainly don't want to eat at McDonalds every day for 6 weeks! (which would be their idea of heaven  )

It sure does sound like you have similar kids to mine. Good luck with the food, it was quite a headache for us.

Hi, Ehsmum, we are following a similar route to yours, plus San Diego, Grand Canyon, Las Vegas and a couple of nights in Washington DC. We found it was expensive in some places for a family of 5. We've worked it all out now so we hope our choices are good, I found trip advisor a great resource. We are staying at Suites at Fishermans Wharf (in San Francisco, for next to nothing. ONE WEEK TO GO :cool1: or should I say

kalice, do you mind if I ask where you are staying in DC? we too are a family of 5 struggling with accomodation. However, we are not going for a while yet! Have a great trip, you'll have to fill us all in upon your return!

ehsmum, I posted some info on accomodation for 5 on the Ms Shuttergirls trip report in the Australian sub-forum.

Welcome ehsmum. Sounds like a fantastic trip planned.

Thank you :).

I can't wait to hear about your trip when you get back! We're planning a couple of nights in Washington DC as well. We are going to catch the train from NYC to DC for 2 nights then fly from there to Orlando. Have a great trip!!

We are travelling this part of our journey with a friend and her son, so my son (same age) is sharing with them for DC only. We are staying at the Omni Shoreham, we got a great deal via email from them as I had registered with the Select guest program. I'm pretty sure Embassy Suites have rooms for 5.

We are also travelling by train, to break up our stay in NY.
Thank you :).

I'll post a report when we get back, not sure that it will be as entertaining as some, but it's good to get a view from another Aussie! You can subscribe on the reply to post page, and you'll get an email when someone posts.

Well bags are packed and we are just about to leave for Adelaide Airport. I think we've got everything, if not, too late!

It was fun trying to keep each bag under 23kg but looks like we shall be fine.

Thanks for eveyones help and will report back when we get home.

Thanks, I've been looking all over for that feature!

Hello All

We are a family of four but I am currently helping a family member plan a trip and they are a family of five. We have found the website vrbo.com to be very helpful. It is worldwide and is a website where people rent out their own vacation homes on this website. There are heaps in DC amongst other places. Might be worth a look!

I have been checking out airfares - I am still determined to get a bargain for next year.

Anyways, I don't know if any of you are looking as well but Air NZ have $960 return fares for May 2010 . I think that is an amaaaaaazing price, but it's too soon for us to go back.

But I hope they have a similar price for Dec 2010 soon :goodvibes

Aussiegirls, you think just like me. I am checking fares religiously each week hoping to find that elusive cheap fare. We too are hoping to go Nov/Dec next year. $960 is a great price but May is way too early for us too.

Keep your eyes peeled for the December prices. If you come across something good please share it. I would be keen to check out some bargains.

That's a great price! Hopefully those prices will be around again the the following year.

We went in May a couple of years ago and the weather was just perfect, and crowds were non-existent (well, compared to Halloween ;) )

Ms Shuttergirl, if I see a great bargain for Nov/Dec 2010 I will definately share. You too ok!!! If you see anything great please share. 2 heads (or 3, or 4, or 5 etc....) are definately better than one :rotfl:
