Aussie Disneyland Planners come on in and lets plan together :)

Oh okay, so Ibupropen is in panadol? Cool, thanks for that.

Last year I needed to purchase some in a "Drug Store" and I just looked for a headache tab with Ibupropen, which is the active ingredient in Nurofen, Advil, Heron Blue, and a few others.

Paracetamol is the active in Panadol, Panamax, and others.

Last year while searching I discovered Paracetamol is called often called "acetaminophen" in the US http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paracetamol (scroll down a bit.)

Also, codeine, even in small amounts is a prescription medicine in the US, can't buy over the counter. So if you're planning on taking Nurofen Plus, Panadene, Panadene forte, take a prescription just in case you get searched on entry (unlikely, but you never know.) For reference, I'm trying to find my link on this from the US government, it's somewhere on my computer!!!

ETA - Found one of them! Official US site:

http://sydney.usconsulate.gov/irc/faq/travel/misc.html#medications

- there was one more that said about it not being allowed, but I can't find it.

Good to see that the dollar hit 74c today, its picked up over 12c in the past two monts, I am going to get some more today, although it is possible of it going a bit higher in the next few weeks. :upsidedow

Yay I am egging it on every day. 74.09c although not as good as the 94c we had last year at least it is on it's way up. It really can make a difference to everyones budget can't it?

Butterflykisses - In Vegas make sure you go to a show and if you are after something kid friendly then any of the Cirque De Soliel shows will are a must. Also make sure to head to the other end of the strip and go to the Stratasphere, head upto the very top where they have some insane rides, which I did and scared the poop out of me and I usually love scary rides. Also go shopping at The Fashion Mall which is up near The Palazzo. Catch a Free show outside Treasure Island, these are done a few times during the night and have a huge pirate ship with pyrotechnics etc.
Take a walk through The Venetian and watch all the Gondolas and make sure to look up at the painted "sky" ceiling. No matter where you look you will be amazed at everything in Vegas.

Also be prepared for a lot of walking, my legs were killing me and I ended up buying a new pair of sensible runners with cushion support to replace my trendy flat useless pair.

If you are into shopping and have time do the outlet shops in Vegas, and Fashion Mall like the others suggested. We did the best shopping in Vegas real bargains.

Thanks for the info on Santa Monica pier, we have been around the area before but just didn't get time to actually go onto the pier. Looks nice just for a stroll around.

Hi gogo55. In my experience the fares from the US into Canada are generally quite high in comparison to US destinations. We usually try to fly into the nearest US airport and cross via land. I know this isn't always an opton, but if you are renting a car (this can also be cheaper from the US) and your final Canadian destination isn't too far from the border then maybe check out this option. Flights from US into Canada attract higher taxes than US domestic flights so this makes up a small portion of the added prices. We use our frequent flyer points alot and a trip from LAX to Syracuse NY will cost us USD6.00 each in taxes, where fling into Toronto will cost around USD 60.00 each. Same number of points for each per ticket. Our final destination is around the same distance. On the rare occassion where we have had to pay for our flights within North America and not use FF points we have always found it much cheaper to fly US domestic.

Thanks platypus67.
Yes we have worked out the cheapest way is to get to Seattle and then up to Canada, (Kelowna) but still is costing close to $450 AUD each.
Have been looking to use FF points,(have close to 1,000,000 points thanks to Amex) so far we have got SYD-LAX and Canada to Honolulu on FF, just can't get up to Canada. We also still need to book Honolulu-Syd and that is also a big pain, because we one want one way and for some reason jetstar insists on charging us in USD
At least the honolulu hotels are coming down in price which will offset the extra flight costs.

gogo65 have you had a look at zuji.com.au. We used them to book our HNL -LAX flights in 2007 and got some really good prices less than USD400 return. I believe we also used them for one ticket LAX to MCO (orlando) and got it for around USD130 one way. I was hesitant at first because they are based in Singapore, but could not complain at all. Because we were using FF points for some of our flights we booked as early as allowed and as is quite usual with AA many flight changes-mind you only minutes difference, but Zuji emailed and called us for each one. I haven't looked at them recently because we have been using mostly FF points for the US domestic so no idea how their fares are but it may be worth a look.

Thanks for your help Arje. Do you have any photos at all of your stay at the Dana? Which room did you stay in? We're booked into a bayview room in the new water's edge building.

I do have some photos, but I don't have an online account to be able to upload them. I'll look at that later to do for you. We were in the Marina Cove section and must have had a Garden View room (as out the back of the room was a fantastic tropical garden courtyard). Our room was on the end of the building literally on the Marina, it was great. We went for a walk and saw the new Water's Edge buildings, they looked very nice. Great spot, sort of on a point west of the main lobby and pool building. We were east of here on the Sea World side. Add about 5-10 minutes walk to Sea World from your end, but it's a stroll at worst and a pleasant one at that. We did eat at the Blue Pearl once, and it was fine, but we had a car, so we did head into town and ate at different places each night.

Hey Kylie, thanks for all of this great info. So it looks like Nurofen would be the way to go for aches and pains. I really appreciate all of that extra information.

Hi everybody, where is everybody??

Hope you all haven't gone out and gotten a life other than Disney!! :lmao:

It's gotten very quiet in here, hope you're all well :)

No BecPee, no life here other than Disney! It is totally consuming all of my thoughts. 8 more sleeps! I can't believe it. The kids and I were saying this afternoon we seem way more excited this time than when we went in 2007. Probably because now we know how awesome it is. Better think about packing. yay!!!!!:cool1:

Yeah, we're all still about, my mind has just been taken up with packing and what not, we fly to the US tomorrow, and I still don't know what we're doing with our car while we're away!

Oops I haven't been around due to madly trying to organise my trip to the Greek Islands for next April/May and as I use Frequent Flyer points, I am trying find seats in the pointy end, so spend my time watching and waiting to pounce. Seats are there just not for the dates I want yet - The joys of being a points pig :lmao:

Also hubby has just gone into hospital for an operation today and last night my e-commerce website was hacked :scared1:, so I have been a busy girl and only been able to sit down and take a peek here for the first time tonight.

Oh I hope your hubby is okay. Nothing serious I hope.

Sorry to hear about your website, that sort of stuff is depressing

Yeah just a follow on operation from his bad motorbike accident last year, he will be home in about 3-4 days, all's good.

Someone was bored and hacked into our hosts server and like a graffitti artist, just vandalised our site for the fun of it and deleted a heap of stuff. It's all fixed now but halted our business for a while.

Hi. I was hoping I could join in your little chat (and maybe get some handy Disney hints) too.

Myself and my 2 girls are going to Disneyland in October. We will be staying at the HoJo for a week and a half then going to stay in Studio City in LA for a week.

We are veeeeery excited, have never been there before. Got a really amazing deal with V Australia that I would have been insane to pass up. The 3 of us are going for the cost of what 1 of us would have been 12 months ago :yay:

Just egging on the Aussie dollar. Got up to .76 for a while there today and I had a little cheer at work (I think the others were wondering what was going on with me)

Of course you can join in, welcome to a site that you will become addicted too. I am going in September, so will be there just before yourselves. I watch the US dollar every day and tonight got very excited when it jumped. Keep on egging it higher and higher. It was around 94c when we went last year and that was great, so fingers crossed it keeps climbing.
Have you been to Disneyland before? Any questions???

Thanks Czardas. No, we have never been before.

One thing I was wondering (which may possibly have been covered in the previous 27 pages rotfl ) was about tickets to the Mickeys Not So Scary Halloween Party. I know they are already on sale for WDW but they are not for Disneyland.

Does anybody know what the dates will be and maybe when the tickets will go on sale? I have, have, have to get some. I mean, we can't go to the US over Halloween and not "do" Halloween :wizard:

Thanks

xxx

Sorry Aussiegirls, this is something I can't answer for you but I am sure someone can help. As I am not going during Halloween time I have not absorbed any information on this.

Why don't you go and ask a question in the main section rather than the aussie thread, you will have an answer as quick as a flash.

Hi, just getting back to the shopping in Vegas, which outlets are the best to go to? I think there are two different ones????? and is Fashion Show Mall more higher end shops? Looking forward to filling my suitcase :woohoo:

I only shopped at Fashion Mall which was your standard type shopping centre.

Hi aussiegirls. Myself and dd are also doing a girls only trip in October and staying at Hojos. We will be attending the Trick or Treat Party. I believe tickets will go on sale in August for the general public We went last year and attended the party- had a fantastic time. I bought my tickets a couple of weeks before we left as it was a spur of the moment trip. I will be looking on the disneyland site early August and purchasing online as soon as they become available. As for dates there was something on the main board regarding this, but I believe it is held Thursday and Friday nights during the month of October. We went to the first one held last year on the 3rd. We are planning on going on the 15th or 16th. If my dd has her way we will go both nights :)
