Aussie Disneyland Planners come on in and lets plan together :)

Food - The serving size in America is massive. Get ready for everything being deep fried or coming with packets of potoato chips. I couldn't get over how many people were drinking coke with their breakfasts:sad2:

Our flights there and back
  • Our flight home last year was a bit exciting also as I was seated next to Ozzie Osbourne and his wife Sharon. It made for an interesting flight. The Qantas staff were all over him. I must admit that the aftershave that he put on the next morning was really yummy and to this day I am kicking myself for not asking what it was. Might I just add that his brain cells are fried:hippie:

Ooh, the food. I think that what is deep fried is over cooked, it's a lot darker than what we're used to here.

How cool, with Ossie and Sharon. Were you in the pointy end of the plain? We saw a few famous people when we were there in Sept/Oct...

Mickey Rooney in the American Airlines/Qantas Club lounge in LA while waiting for our transfer to Las Vegas. He looked, well he is, very very old. He had someone pushing him in a wheelchair. We didn't say anything, or even really look as I was trying to work out how to find drinks in there and pretty frazzled from the trip over.

Heather Locklear, staying in the same hotel in Las Vegas, had a brief and very good for DD's confidence, conversation with DD.

Kid Rock - somehow my favourite meet up on the last trip, same hotel again in LV, he had his entourage of ladies around, but spoke in detail to DH about the qualities of McDonalds at 10.30 at night while they rode the lift together! DH was carrying back McD's to DD who decided she was hungry at that time of night!

DH is in media so it's not normally thing, but the above, mainly Mickey Rooney was cool and I got a buzz out of it.

And perhaps a celeb :goodvibes ....
Emum - good to see you back, I think it was you and your family that I saw when we were in DL last year, but you were on the other side of Main Street.

Ok Flea, so your number 1.
The first 5 people to PM me thier child's first name, address and favourite Disney character (i will try to accomodate) have a postcard on the way. I will be posting them between 23rd April and 3rd May.
I just love spreading the magic! It's good karma too!

sorry, can't PM you back. It should arrive just in time, as long as I use a US postal box, not one in DL, they are very slow! It's on it's way.

LittleDisneyLovers, that sounds like a great idea. Unfortunately I don't plan on telling my kids they are going back until September (we go towards the end). They are still getting over our trip in January. I got 36 photos printed (more to come) and my DD has given everyone a running commentary on the photos complete with extra details - like this is where we had breakfast with Mickey Mouse!

Sharkmeister, I know all about it! My girls are Disney, Disney, Disney 24/7. They show everyone they can catch their autograph books! Especially thier prized photo of them with Snow White and all 7 dwarves! LOL!

Hi there everyone. I'm really excited to be jumping in and introducing myself. I have been reading the boards for 2 months now and just think it is an amazing magical place full of excited people, and I am thrilled to now be a part of it.

We were supposed to be going to Disneyland on 7 December this year after 2 years of saving and planning but my DH's father has recently been diagnosed with cancer so my husband has decided the trip will have to be postponed until next year. Very disappointing but completely understandable.

I have a DD who is nearly 11 and a DS who just turned 7 last week. Having discussed it with my DD who is the big Disney fan like me, we have decided that we would prefer to wait until December next year than go at any other time of year (I am obsessed with Christmas, and my daughter is nearly as crazy). It just seems the logical time for us to go there.

So anyway, I am keen to keep following this thread and hearing your tips and living through your trips and excitement until I can experience my own.

Thanks Flea for the link for DL's Australian site. Through that I was able to order the Disneyland Planning DVD, something which I hadn't been able to do through their US site. Here is the link for anyone interested:
disneyland/disneyland_dvd

Yay, thanks so much for posting that link. I was so frustrated that I wasn't able to order this through the US website. I can't wait for it to arrive now. Thanks again.

Hi everyone,

Welcome to all the new members!

Kylieh, thanks so much for the check my trip website. We are just in the process of booking our flights with our TA so as soon as we are issued our tickets, I will check to see if I can find out what seats we have been allocated :)

Oooh, I will check out that menu site too!

Marvel, oh wow! We might bump into each other :) Which building are you staying in? We have requested building 2 facing the garden pool.

gogo65, thanks for adding all that extra info to the list. It's going to help heaps!

emum, what was the weather like when you went last year? We'll be going at the end of September and I was wondering what type of clothes we should pack?

AussieDaisy, where did you get that fabric to make that Disney top in the last pic you posted? And do you have a pattern for it? I would love to make some Disney outfits for my trip :)

I am sooooo excited about our trip. We are using our Rudd money to pay for our accomodation at Hojo and the rest of of USA holiday including flights, accomodation & spending money is paid for through DF's prize money. So our holiday is FREE!!! Yay!!

How many days is everyone doing in Disneyland?

We'll have 6 full days in Anaheim and we are planning on spending 4 days at DL/DCA, one day to visit Universal Studios & 1 day to do a LA/Hollywood tour.

As we are spending 3 nights in San Diego also, we are thinking of getting the Southern California City pass. We want to add extra park hopper days to the ticket though does anyone know if that is possible?

Would this be the best ticket to get if we want to spend;

4-5 days in Disneyland (Might add a 5th day so we have the option of heading to the park at night after one of our LA days)

1 day at Universal Studios including a front of line pass
1 day at Seaworld including lunch/dinner with Shamu
1 day at San Diego Zoo

Obviously I would need to add on the extra park hopper days, front of line pass & Shamu meal. Does anyone know how we would do this and if it is possible?

We will be arriving late on a Tuesday night. We then have Wednesday to Friday full days and the Saturday until we leave for the airport around 6pm.
We may have to squeeze in a shopping day for DD, so if all goes to plan we will do this on Friday and then attend the Halloween party that night. If we decide to give the shopping a miss we may head to San Diego for the day or venture into LA on Thursday. We will be doing some border hopping from Canada to shop in New York State, most likely driving to Syracuse to visit the Carousel Mall and The Christmas Tree Shop so we may be shopped out by then. The difficult thing will be leaving enough room in the suitcases for our Disney shopping. This is the first time we have stopped on the way home.:)

Ms Shuttergirl - so sad to hear about your father-in-law. I hope everything goes alright in that respect. I'm sure it's incredibly hard for you to postpone your trip a full year. But it will be that much better when you go. Just think, another year's time, with 3 airlines flying to LA, you should get really good prices! We're going at Christmas time as well, and are very much looking forward to the magic.

ButterflyKisses - we're spending 9 days in SoCal - first 5 in San Diego and last 4 in Disney. We are going to LegoLand, SD Zoo & SeaWorld. We won't do Universal because our kids are too young for that - 2 & 5. It's so hard to know where to spend your time. I'm not sure what our kids will like when they get there. It's also hard to know which ticket packages to get. We ended up getting a 5-day SDZ, WAP, SW park hopper pass, and will get a 4-day DLR park hopper pass.

Just 7.5 months to go... ;)

I see quite a few of you are flying with V Australia and that you are mentioning great deals. What sort of dollars are we talking for flights to LA????

V Australia on their website at the moment are advertising a $999 sale until 16th of June. They've also just opened a Brisbane to LAX route.

Last year when we flew over in March is was $5300 for the two of us to NYC and back. To get it now for less then half price is amazing!

I hope the financial crisis continues, it's seeming to make overseas travel very affordable, I wish we had been planning last year to go THIS year, we would save so much money ;)

We're hoping to fly V-Australia premium economy, we'll see how much their prices increas over the next 12 months :rolleyes1

Thanks for that Bec. Wow what a difference in price from last year to this.

OK, I have to ask.....can I be an unofficial aussie (ozzie) ?

I really love your country, I have been lucky enough to do two separate trips. My DH I think has done 8 different trips? His brother, moved there in the 70's , never left and is now a citizen.

Our first trip (my DD was 8) we spent a week in Sydney, a split week in Cairns/Port Douglas, and a week with family in Brisbane.

Our second trip (DD 16) we spent a week in Sydney, a week in Cairns, a week in Brisbane, and a week in Melbourne.

will it help my case that I am an official Brisbane bridge climber?

how about my DH and his DB being tied for the Morton Island sand surfer record of the day?

Wow, that is a difference! This year 4 of us are flying return with Qantas from Brisbane to NYC with a stopover in LA on the way back for $4564 (1 child + 3 adults - although I would hardly consider a 12 year an adult:confused3). This is the main reason we are taking the trip at all - the cheap airfares.

Hi Judy - i'm sure no one will mind, us Aussie's are very laid back...

Are you planning any more trips to Australia?? Is the financial crisis making travel to Australia even cheaper for you??

.

Yep gotta love the pointy end.

Doesn't anyone want to take up my offer of the Disneyland maps??? I have three from last year that I am happy to post to anyone that hasn't been to Disneyland before. Just PM me with your details.

OK:thumbsup2

But whats this with the Story Bridge -never heard of it :lmao:

Isn't there only 1 bridge in Oz worth climbing;)

Its now time for me to go and hide, I have lived in Sydney for most of my life and still haven't even managed to walk over that silly bridge. Maybe if I stopped spending all my money and time at Disney or on these boards I might get around to it one day.
