Anyone else read this series? I read the entire Sookie series so I started these..... I just finished book 6 ( a fool and his honey) and I really really did not like what happened at the end.

I have 3 sookie books to go yet! Of course i read them out of order so im reading dead untill dark now. I havent read the Aurora Teagarden ones but are they as good as the sookie story? I guess I take that back, I read poppy done to death but didnt think it was that great.

I'm a librarian and a "cozy" mystery lover. I think that C. Harris is an excellent example of an author to read in strict chronological order, noting the year written, because you can really see her evolution as an author, and what market was popular at that time. I love the Aurora series (probably because she starts off as a librarian;)), but I do feel that it's very uneven in tone, starting off as a cozy and then evolving into small town suspense. You can feel C.H. leaving the cozy world behind and eventually combining small town/suspense/supernatural. The Sookie series started off as smalltown/mystery (with aspects of supernatural) and eventually gives up all mystery aspects and is all supernatural all the time.

And, yes, what happens in that volume is shocking:scared1:.

You are right Yoopermom, Cozy is a great word to describe the books in the beginning of the series especially.
I have a thing about reading in chronological order, I have to do it that way!! even if I am missing the next book but have the book after that , I wait to do it in order LOL

I haven't quite started these yet. . I'm on the Harper Connelly ones now (Book 3..) but Aurora Teagarden is next! I love Charlaine's books!

I loved the Teagarden series.

I was so disappointed to find out that Charlaine would not be writing any more for that character.

I haven't read her Sookie series I really am not into the whole vampire thing so I don't have any interest.

If you liked the Teagarden stories you might like the Series of books of Aunt Dimity by Nancy Atherton.

These are best read in order as well. I had written to Nancy to let her know about my feelings on changes that had been made to her book jackets and she wrote back and we sent several emails to each other. What a lovely person! She has a website at http://www.aunt-dimity.com/ so you can take a look at her books there.

Happy reading!

I didn't like the end to that one either. I really enjoyed the Aurora books and was sad that they ended. I really liked the last two and I bet you will too.....
Last Scene Alive at least ties things up for a last book.

I just looked at that site, Those books look good:thumbsup2 after I finish this series I am going to start them, thanks!

I just started Last Scene Alive last night, and I have Poppy done to death waiting in the wings :)
I am sad to hear there will be no more Aurora books,
I do love charlaine harris books
I think I will read the Harper Connelly series and the Lily Bard series too.

I read the Lily Bard (Shakespear AK, mysteries) first. I actually liked the charecters in that series better than Ro Teagarden, however the Teagarden mysteries are much better crafted.

I loved the first Harper books, but honestly it pretty much lost me when, well for the sake of spoilers, lets just say I didn't like where she ended up going. I read the last book to finish the storylines but didn't enjoy it as much.

If you liked the mysteries you might look at Carolyn Hart (Death on Demand, Henri O series). She does some really nice mysteries that have the same small community, colorful charecter feel as Harris.

I agree with you about the Harper books.... that was just too odd and didn't fit for me.

I am going to look up the other authors suggested, thanks!

Just finished book 3 and while I loved the mystery I'm a little, um, SHOCKED by the rest of it. :scared1:

I've enjoyed all of Harris' series books. I could never muddle through the two that weren't part of a series, though.

I'm sorry that she is focusing all of her writing efforts on Sookie. I hoped for more Teagarden books.

ok, I am on book 3 of the Harper series. and ummmm, well I do know the spoiler, I suspected it from the way she was thinking at the end of book 2.
I don't think I am going to finish reading this book, or book 4 at all.
I really am disturbed by the murder mystery in this book, very depressing and horrible.
and the other thing, very very creepy.
does not fit at all. can't wrap my brain around it.

I think its time to move onto Lily Bard, and also some of the other suggestions made here:thumbsup2

I've read and reread all of Charlaine Harris's books. I am a Sookie fan but I'm a huge True Blood fan too so I of course will favor the Sookie series. It's been a while since I read the Aurora series, it may be times to refresh my memory.

I have read and reread all her books also. I really like them all but probably like Harper Connelly the best. Their life is so tragic/strange it intrigues me. There are things I like and dislike in every book I read so I usually just keep going and it redeams itself. Mostly I like Charlaine's character development. Everyone is so multilayered I want to know more about them.

I enjoy reading series of books. I also like something with an odd twist. Paranormal, vampires, you know, weird. ;)

If you like good character development and paranormal stuff with cops and murders tossed in try Jim Butcher's Dresden Files. Just love me some Harry Dresden. :lovestruc

Thanks for the recommendation for the Dresden Files. I just picked up a 9-book set on Amazon (used) for an amazingly good price.
