Every year, my aunt & uncle send a beautiful card and a monetary gift (a check). It's very nice of them. Actually they are quite generous, they send 2 checks, one for me & one for my husband. It just feels weird though because I'm way, way, way past a being kid or a teenager, the time I would expect that to end.

They had their first grandchildren last year & with the economy the way it is, I'd rather they keep it for themselves or their children/grandchildren but I wouldn't tell them that, I think it would sound ungrateful. They've told us that they don't want us to reciprocate. I just feel like a little kid again when I get the checks. I always try to bring something for each of them on Christmas Day which they always have at their house. I'm trying now to write a thank you note. How does "Thank you for the generous gifts" sound? Or should I leave out the "generous"?

Do you get gifts from people you don't expect to?

I do get something similar from my great-aunts. I just consider their way of keeping up the relationship and I usually do reciprocate. I've made them lap quilts, sent them photos, always do a nice thank you note.
