If you don't wish a car, what are the options/costs to get to Aulani from the airport? For example, does Diz have a shuttle? What's a cab cost?

Is there a rental car agency in Aulani if you only want a car for the day?

Thanks.

There is a car rental location at Aulani, iirc it is alamo. If you would at all be thinking of renting a car more than one day I would seriously consider renting for the whole trip. I got a Maxima through "discount" at a great price, and if you are a dvc member you don't pay for parking at the resort. We also downloaded a Island tour app and did all sight seeing on our own, saving a ton in tour packages and could spend as much or little time as we wanted at the various sights. Also the car came in handy to go to target and pick up replacement items and food items to consume in our rooms. Over all I would say having the car saved us more money than if we wouldn't have had it.

Our first trip to Aulani, we just rented a car one day and booked a few tours that picked us up from the resort. We spent most of our time in Aualni. You can book airport transportation through Aulani with Speedi Shuttle. The cost was about $37pp round trip. Everyone in our group had a good experience with them.
There is an Alamo desk onsite like pp mentioned. Try and reserve early, and check Costco travel (if you are a member) and http://www.discounthawaiicarrental.com/ for cheaper rates.

Good to know about transportation. We just got our DVC this year and are exploring options for going to other locations. All those costs add up though. Glad i found this page.

Seriously consider renting a car if you can. Couple advantages:

  • If you are staying on points (rented or your own), parking is free.
  • Depending on the season you go, rental price can be really reasonable. Our 10 days rental for a standard SUV (i.e. Toyota RAV4) was only $300 tax included via Costco. Standard car was about $250 for 10 days at the same time period. Just keep checking the price, it fluctuates a lot.
  • With a car, you can easily go to Target, Costco, etc. on the previous freeway exit. It is only a 5 to 7 minute drive. Pack light and get things you need locally.
  • A whole lot more dining choices when you have a car. We tried many different restaurants just around the area. Seriously, go explore! Yelp is your friend. Best breakfast we had is a local concoction called "Loco Moco".
  • Going to all the different attractions are much easier. You go on your schedule. Weather sucks at the day scheduled for Pearl Harbor? Just enjoy Aulani and go another day!
Unlike Waikiki, Aulani is located on the less populated side of the island. You wouldn't want a car if you stay around Waikiki, but I really suggest you get a car if possible at Aulani. Otherwise you will be stuck in the "Disney Bubble".

We have stayed at Aulani twice. The first time we rented a car, the second time we took Speedy Shuttle from the airport and only rented a car one of the days from the on-site Alamo station. Both worked fine.
