Hi all:thumbsup2

I'm in the process of booking our trip to Aulani for August, and it looks like we will be staying in two different room types, which is great - but I just wondered, for those who have done this - would you plan change over day to be at the resort or would you take the opportunity to make that one off your touring days?

We will be at Aulani for 8 days and will have done most of our touring during our earlier stay on Waikiki, but we will have two quite long days of sightseeing still to do (Kualoa ranch and Byodo In Temple one day and the North Shore the other day - we will eat offsite then too, so expect we will be gone from Aulani from 8.30-7pm both days)

At first I thought it would be better to tour on that day, seeing as how we are 'homeless' for some of the time, but then I wondered whether we will have a better chance of getting the room we want if we are there early? (We are switching to an ocean view and I thought that by the time we get back from touring perhaps we will be limiting our chances of switching rooms if we are unhappy if we don't get back until the evening?)

Many thanks for any thoughts:thumbsup2

We switched rooms halfway through once. I sent my DH to the lobby at 7 am. We received a text around 11am. (This was last April).

Not sure what to recommend but if you decide to leave for the day, just check in before you leave and see which room they're assigning you to if you're concerned about your room assignment while you're gone.

So would they know what rooms are assigned first thing in the morning, even if the room isn't available until later? If so, that would be terrific, as I have a list of the rooms I'd ideally like and could take info from the great Dis Aulani view thread, to give me an idea of how good the room is, so at least I could ask for a switch first thing if there is anything that can be done:thumbsup2

We are switching rooms with 4 days in the first room and 6 days in the second room when we visit at the end of the month. Our first thought was to book a cabana that day we switch which is what I did last week. But, my son is in the Fish Are Friends activity from 11 to 2 that day, so now we are looking at booking a couples massage and hanging out at the spa for a little while while he is in class. Then, if we pick him up and eat lunch, we figure that should be plenty of time for the new room to be ready. We decided we wanted a cabana for a day he would be with us more.

I must admit, I was wondering about possibly getting a cabana, but if the rooms are definitely allocated first thing in the morning, (even if I can't get in until late in the afternoon), then that would be perfect! I could go off touring safe in knowledge that my room is arranged and I can query it before I go off for the day if the room isn't ideal - then at least I know I've done all I can about it!:thumbsup2

I dont know why this happened because it was VERY busy when we were there but my hubby went down the day of our switch and explained that we would be gone for the day. I was sooo impressed, the DVC Studio was empty and cleaned so they let us move our stuff quite early and we were set with keys when we got back-easy peasy! Perhaps let them know when you check in and then again the night before or the morning of and they may sprinkle some pixie dust for you too.

Will do, thank you :thumbsup2 that would be terrific!:)

When we went in April, we switched from a studio to 1 bedroom 3rd day into the trip. Husband and two kids went fishing that morning, I stayed behind. My plan was to go to front desk first thing in the morning to find out about new room, then pack and go & relax at the pool when I had to check out of room #1 and until room #2 was ready. When I went down at 7am, I was told 1 bedroom was ready for us (YAY!) and I moved us in. When DH and kids came back I was already unpacked and sipping wine on the balcony :thumbsup2

But, if it hadn't worked out with husband and kids going on the fishing excursion or plan was to spend our transition day at the pool or beach
