Hello ladies. Hubby says he would like to go to Aulani next December. I looked online and the cost is ridiculous. Am I looking in the wrong place? Can you rent DVC there? Has anyone been that would be willing to share tips for us? TIA.

I am not a lady but can help. I would rent DVC points, would be cheaper.

Where are you located. What dates are you wanting to go to Aulani.

LOL Colin. Thanks for helping. I am in Brisbane. We do not have fixed dates yet but we are thinking around middle of December 2016. The plan is to go to DL either before or after. Having said that, I think we can be a bit flexible with dates if it means saving some money. We could push it forward to November if we had to. I really want to be at DL to see the Christmas displays though.

Rent DVC Points, try Davids Rentals if you don't know anyone wanting to rent points, they have pretty good feedback. Renting could save you lots!! December is peak season so more points will be required to book per night than during November. If you go for December I would highly recommend you book at the 11 month mark which is the earliest that DVC members can reserve a room as it will fill up fast!! Another thing is December is very busy at Aulani, talking full capacity. If you check Trip Advisor for reviews around December you will see a lot of complaints about not finding a pool chair etc etc, going in November will be much better for this but depends on whether you can stand going in a busy period or not.

As Meemoo says December could be hard to get into unless you get in at the 11 month window. I would rent you the points but as it is not our home resort I can only book at the 7 month window. I would try the Rent/trade section of Disboards and check the listings for someone with Aulani points. You need to make a decision and know what dates or be flexible with the owner and also the room type, studio, 1 bedroom etc and the view type. When someone does a post with points especially for the 11 month window they will be gone quick.

David's Vacation rentals is a good way to check the room type. view and amount of points. David's biggest problem is having the owners wanting to list their points through a broker.

We stay at Aulani for 3 nights from mid January on the way home from WDW and have no problems getting in at the 7 month window as this is a slower time.

Where is your home resort Colin? Mine is Aulani, but I'm not able to rent out points right now, just back from a trip and planning our first to WDW so I need to save them up again! I think DVC members in Australia are very rare, never met any on my travels. If you're familiar with the WDW DVC Hotels would you say a split stay at Grand Floridian & Animal Kingdom would be a nice choice? We are going to rent a car.

Sorry for steering away from the original post!!

We initially bought in 1999. All our points are Boardwalk and all with the same use year. Best investment we ever made.

We stayed 1 week at Aulani in September for our 30th anniversary. Great place to stay.

Animal Kingdom normally no problems booking at the 7 month window. Grand Floridian could be hard to get into and the point usage is higher per night. Grand Floridian is a nice resort and good to visit especially when the Gingerbread house is there over Christmas but not sure I would want to stay there. Personally I would only stay in the Epcot resort area.

Thanks Meemoo and Colin. I will look into David's rentals. It's really hard to know exact dates with my husbands job. We tend to book things at the last minute.

If it is last minute I would not try for DVC points rental!

It must be even more so excellent value for you having bought in so early. I thought we'd like Animal Kingdom because we love The Grand Cal & Aulani, that one looks like another work of art and can't go past the Lion King bathrooms! I'm not up on the WDW areas I have no idea what is where. I guess thats something to discover for us. The Grand Floridian took my fancy because we stayed at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel which looks very similar and I'm loving the Mary Poppins theming in the DVC lobby! I think I will try for those 2 and have some back up plans, we will travel in non-peak period. We are planning a Disney Cruise too, so looking to avoid the Hurricane and very hot seasons. DVC is wonderful as even when a trip is over, you can start thinking about the next one!
