Does anyone know what the minimum buy-in for Aulani is? I have attempted to contact our guide and have recieved no response.

Also, if we do buy-in and receive the 11 month booking advantage, we can use our BLT points to book at that point as well, correct? Or can we only book using our Aulani points at 11 months and have to wait on the rest?

TIA,
Amy

I was just at a DVC sales event yesterday at the Contemporary and they said the minimal contract was 160 points.

You cannot combine different home resort's points until the 7 month mark, but you can bank and borrow your Aulani points to go once every three years, for example.

as per DVCnews.com

sounds like aulani contracts will get charged a flat $250 for ROFR fees when you go to resell - so i'd be careful and think twice before buying 25-50 pt aulani contracts.

I know that OCC (Orange County Controller) charges Disney a fee to file the waiver of ROFR, it's only $18.50. Perhaps Hawaii has higher fees. Or Disney has decided that they are not eating the processing expense for all of these small contracts. There also seems to be more speculators who buy small contracts at new resorts and then sell them after they use the first three years of points for one reservation. We definitely are seeing stripped small contracts for BLT showing up on the resale market now.

I think you are correct. Disney is putting something in to cover costs for that process. And, if you are buying a bigger contract, not such a big deal, but on those smaller ones--that could be a killer!

Thanks everyone! If we do decide to buy in it will likely be a smaller contract as HI is not a destination we would go to every year (too far) but every three years or so may be doable. So thanks for the info on the ROFR fees as well; definitely something to take into consideration (not that we would buy with the intent of selling the contract, but you never know what may happen in the future!)

I haven't asked specifically, but as a member I was able to get an addon with a different UY then my current UY at only 60 points. I'm not sure if that is for add-ons only, or if my new add on is its own master contract. I haven't received the paperwork yet.

if it has a different UY month, it is a new master contract and will be a little more complicated to use with your current contract.

an "add-on" will always have the same UY month as the master contract.

I don't think you can add a contract to your existing master contract unless it has the same UY. If your new contract has a different UY than your existing contract(s), then it must have it own contract number.

Before you sign the paperwork on the new contract, you may want to speak to Quality Assurance (the telephone number will be in the packet of paperwork you get from Disney) or to your Guide.

I believe that if your new contract has a different UY, then you will have two membership numbers and two separate accounts. Having two different membership accounts is not a bad thing, but you should be aware that using points from two different accounts to make one reservation requires some extra work. It not impossible to make it work, but its not as seamless as when all points come from the same account.

If you have any questions, please ask.

Congratuations on buying Aulani!!

Thanks to all the PPs that explained the master contract v. add-on contract in their posts.

I think that I will be assigned a different member ID number---I still haven't received my paperwork yet but I received an email with a new one-time activation code.

If I wanted to use both contracts for a reservation, would I have to transfer points from one account to another before doing so? Or will MS be able to pull up both contracts and apply points toward one reservation.

BTW, I'm not TOO concerned about not being able to "mix" points--we bought Aulani points strictly for use at Aulani and to reserve Thanksgiving dates at 11 months. I might end up using my SSR points at 7 months to see if I can extend my stay...

Lets say that at the 7-month mark you want to book a 2-bedroom villa at AKV for 4 nights, and that each night costs 43 points. To book all four nights you need 172 points, and that you have 160 points in your 1st Account and 125 points in your 2nd account. If you transferred 12 points from the 2nd account into the 1st account, you would then have 172 points in the 1st account; thus, you could book the entire AKV reservation from one account. Keep in mind that you can only make one transfer in or out per Use Year.

A second option is to use 129 points from the 1st account to book three nights and use 43 points from the 2nd account to book the fourth night. Technically, this would be two reservations, but you can have Member Services link the two so that you stay in the same room during your stay. With this option you would not be transferring any points between accounts.

If your intent is to not to mix the points, then having two different UYs should not pose any problems for you. Good luck!!

Yep, I wasn't too pleased when I realized this would be the case. NOBODY mentioned this when we were purchasing.
