We are not early risers and we don't go out early AM to claim chairs and go back to bed. So we stroll out around 10:30 AM and see this. It's been like that most of the week! Whoop whoop! :)

Great update! Keep us (me) posted how the weekend goes... we're there starting next week and I've heard the weekends are pretty busy all year round. Is the resort decorated at all for Halloween/Fall?

Beautiful picture! :thumbsup2

Gina, the resort has not felt full at all this week. Can't comment on Saturday though, because we left the resort. Just in case!:cool1:

BTW, I have a cooler that was generously passed on to me by another DIS member. Would you like to have it for your stay? LMK. I'm going to open a post to see if anyone wants it. We check out tomorrow the 28th.

:thumbsup2 That's why we always visit this time of the year

We do to!

Lissete, thank you for the info! I actually just remembered we won't be around the resort either on Saturday morning because we've designated that day (to take advantage of our wake-up/time difference) to do Diamondhead and basically just explore...

I'll definitely take the cooler if you think bell services will hold it until Friday. Thanks so much!

Any restaurants you tried that you'd highly recommend? Both onsite and off?

Thanks again - hope you had a great time...

I just asked at bell services and was given the ok to hold til Friday. They just need your full name. Just let me know ASAP so I can attach your name.

As far as restaurants, this was the last week of our month in Hawaii so we were kind of over the food thing. So we basically just stuck to Happy Hour at Monkeypods and at Aulani as well. Zippy's for take out too. Our go to, Helena's in Honolulu, was very good as always. Plus we picked up a dozen Maunapuas at Royal Kitchen as well. BTW, their fried rice is delish! Sorry I can't offer up more helpful dining info. :(

We checked out already. So I left it under my name. Email me for the ticket number. Lisseted at yahoo

Sure is a big difference between that and AUGUST where every seat is FULL!!! I think we shall have to plan to go in the off-season for our next trip!! :thumbsup2

We will be at Aulani in a few weeks...

I have a question- Can you have a cooler and your own food at the pool area or just food from the poolside dining? I'm guessing we would just want fruit and or snacks, but maybe sandwiches too.

Thanks :goodvibes

We brought a small collapsible cooler down to the pool every day and just put some ice in it from the ice machine on the way down. MY DH brought his own beer down in it and then poured them into the refillable mugs they sell onsite. I don't think you could get by with a beer can (even concealed in a coozie). Although the refill mugs are sort of a lot of money they worked out well plus kept our drinks insulated. Definitely no glass bottles on the pool deck. I used the refill station to get Diet Coke and brought my own bottle of alcohol down in our pool bag to make my own mixed drinks. I also went up to the villa and made sandwiches in the room to bring down along with bags of chips etc. We just ate lunch on our lounge chairs tho as they do have signs on some of the dining tables near the restaurants that they are for poolside dining customers only.

The only rule I'm aware of is no glass. You are allowed to bring your own food and drinks. And yes, cans of beer. That's customary at all DVC afaik.

That is a big difference than when we were at Aulani, October 5 - 12th. All of the umbrellas chairs were gone by 6:45 AM and many of the seats taken by 8:30 AM, except around the adult pool. It turns out it was during fall break for Hawaii public schools and many year round schools on the west coast and Arizona. Most of the time the resort was at 80% capacity but the last weekend it was at 90%.
That last weekend the CMs were diligent about removing towels and personal items. And some of the guests were really miffed, even though they were warned every time they got their wristbands or picked up towels.

Next trip we will check for school holidays. Of course this trip it couldn't be helped since we arrived in Hawaii via a cruise ship that was going on to Australia (we boarded in Vancouver, BC).

Thanks for your replies! I had edited my post because right after I posted I read on the Aulani website coolers were not allowed on the beach or pool area. After reading your replies I think we will stick with our original plan of bringing a small soft sided cooler that folds flat. It fits inside my beach bag, and is a good size for juice boxes, applesauce pouches, string cheese, etc... I usually just freeze the fruit pouches and juice boxes and use those as ice packs, since the kids will also have water to drink and crackers and stuff to eat while the other stuff melts. :) Dh and I aren't huge drinkers, so we wouldn't likely bring much, if any alcohol with us during the day. We are only at Aulani for a few days and will be visiting friends (and staying with them) for another week before heading to visit family in CA before heading home and I will probably having more than my fair share of drinks with our friends and my sisters. :cool1:
