We went to Aulani once right as it first opened. We are considering a trip back next year.

Is January or February a bad time to visit? It seems that weather year round is about the same but is the ocean temperature too cold?

Is the resort and the island busy? We think it would be cool to see the big waves on the North Shore and maybe some whales if we got lucky.

We stayed a week at Aulani last time and never left Oahu. Would it be crazy to not go visit any of the other islands again? There is still we want to do and see on Oahu and we want time to relax at the resort.

January and February are not bad times to visit. The resort can be less busy, and I like being able to see the North Shore going off and seeing whales off the beach. The ocean wasn't too cold, but I did notice (when we went in March vs being there in July) that the lazy river was slightly colder.
I personally do not think you have to see another island when you go over there. There is a lot to do on Oahu, and it is nice to take time and enjoy the resort.

While Oahu is great if you don't think you will get back to Hawaii any time soon I'd recommend visiting other islands. We were just at Aulani first week in may and never left the resort. We've been there 4 times and love it. But we have been all over Oahu and have been to all the other islands. They all have their own particular beauty.

We were at Aulani the last week of January and first several days of February this year. It was an excellent time to visit, and the weather was perfect. We only had one rainy afternoon. I was in the ocean on most days and do not like cold water. The lagoon felt wonderful. The resort was dead, and we were there actually during the Superbowl. However, you should check to see if the Pro Bowl is back there again this year. I have heard that can be busy with player families and other visitors staying there, and I have heard that MLK weekend and President's Day weekend should be avoided to get away from large crowds. We were in ocean view rooms and on calm see days we could see whales from our balcony. My whale watch trip was cancelled twice though which bummed me out. One day it was cancelled due to the fact that we were the only ones signed up. The next time it was cancelled due to rough water. We really enjoyed our 10 nights just at Aulani, but we are planning ti head back to Maui for our next trip in a few years because we really love that island too and missed not spending time there last trip.
