Does anyone think I will have a problem booking Aulani for the first week of August 2013, at the 7 month mark? I need a 2 BR, either Island/Garden or Poolside/Garden. I have a lot of coordinating to do for this trip...I have family members coming from different parts of country, but my main concern is that I have to book a timeshare on Maui (not thru DVC) for the following week. I want to book that soon (again, so the entire family gets in on it) , but then there is no turning back if I can't get Aulani when I call in January. I'm getting stressed that this all won't fall in to place the way we want it to.

Thanks for any input!

Booking summer at Aulani at the seven month window could be dicey, but if you are booking as soon as it opens you would probably be OK, especially if you are open to other types of views (there are, of course, eight different choices for a two bedroom). Summer has been a very popular booking time--look at the availability for this summer and there is very little. I know Christmas was booked up before the seven month window, but my guess is demand for all the summer months would be spread out over those who actually own Aulani points, making it a bit easier for those non-Aulani owners at the seven month window.

Booking Hawaii is tough becasue there are so many details (especially airfare) that you may not want to wait until just seven months to take care of.

We booked at Aulani at the 7 month mark for this September (2012) without any problems. We did an online reservation ourselves. We only needed a pool view studio but I noticed that other villa sizes and views were available including OV.

It is a risk booking items separately. We intentionally didn't book our NCL cruise and airfare until we had our Aulani reservation. Is there any chance you can change the Maui reservation if need be.

Thanks for the replies, they are very helpful.

DenLo I am in the very beginning stages of looking in to the Maui timeshare. I am certainly hoping that if I make a reservation soon, which would be to my benefit availability wise as opposed to waiting until January, that I would be able to make changes if airfare/Aulani don't work out the way I planned. But don't have a concrete answer on that yet.

I am in the same situation for July, booking another timeshare and keeping my fingers crossed for a 7 month reservation. I want to have this all work out, it is nail biting. I even thought about using RCI but I would rather stay at Disney. I am flexible with room size and view.

If it eases your mind at all, Third Phase will be open by that time, which is all DVC rooms.

We want Oahu June 2013 with the following week at Maui. DVC CM said summer bookings goes fast. I finally found an Aulani owner who will rent their points. It took us a while to find someone to rent from for a whole week. I had enough points to get any view for a week at the 7 month window but I was nervous and I really didn't want the most expensive view in a two bedroom. Now I will need to rent our home resorts points but it is almost a done deal and I will start to watch airfare. I plan on checking at the 7 month window to see if I could of gotten what we wanted. I hope you get your dates pixiedust:

When is the third phase set to open? Isn't it contingent on how point sales at Aulani are going?

I have a wait list over this New Year's, and am HOPING more inventory is placed into service by then.

Just because phase 3 opens up, that does not mean all those rooms will immediately be placed into DVC inventory, they will go into Disney's cash inventory until they are declared into DVC, which will happen by units, as sales inventory is needed.

How often is available inventory declared into DVC for use once the necessary amount of points have been sold? Weekly? Monthly?

The unit has to be declared into inventory before any points can be sold in the unit, the definition of unit varies resort to resort...at OKW it went by buildings. For instance, most of my points are in Bldg 14. But usually a legal "unit" is a group of villa rooms, not an individual villa. As to when it is declared, it all just depends upon when they are running low on points in sales inventory.

We're going this year the first week of August. I started by calling the first morning I could to make a reservation and I didn't get the dates we wanted, thus I took a 1 bedroom, any view and wait listed each a nd every way I could.

As it stands, we are going after modifying our dates and so far we only have one room change. I'm hoping the wait list will come thru so we don't have to make a room change. Our goal is to stay in a standard view all 10 nights.

I don't want this to discourage you, but rather give you a better understanding that you may need to have the idea of going into it with an alternative plan and modify as needed.

Good luck!

This is very helpful. I have two questions: were you able to book at 11 months, or 7 months? and what exactly was it (category and # of nights) that you wanted but couldn't originally get?

We are staying at Aulani Aug.1-8. I called at the crack of dawn (CA time) , 7 months out, and wanted a 1 BR any view. There were NO 1 BR available and the only room they had for all 7 nights was a pool view Studio. I have been on a waitlist for months and so far, it looks like we will be in a studio. I should tell you that we had already booked our airfare so we were very set on our dates. We had no flexibility in our Aulani dates.

I wish you a lot of luck and hope that availability is better next year.
