Hi Everyone

Me and my wife are going to Aulani for 6 days/5 nights in March. I was looking at the restaurants and they look great but expensive. I am thinking we will do the nice one for dinner one day and do the buffett once for bfast and once for dinner. Has anyone posted any reviews on these yet or know of any other on-sites I should try?

Also, Keving mentioned on the Podcast that there is a shopping center right across the street. Do you remember the name of this center? Will there be some cheaper eats over there that are also somewhat Hawaiian?

Thanks

There are no reviews yet, as the resort doesn't open until the 29th of August. I am sure we will hear plenty after that. I too, would be interested in other restaurants, etc. in the area as we are going Dec. 27 :cool1:

Werner Weiss at Yesterland has been doing a running review of the changes at Aulani and has mentioned businesses that are nearby. One restaurant was co- located where the preview center first opened, across the street from the resot.

By the way, Ko Olina Hawaiian Barbecue is terrific place to have tasty, inexpensive breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a clean, friendly place—or to pick up take-out food to eat in the villa. It should be very popular with Aulani guests.

Here's more information about nearby restaurants. http://www.yesterland.com/disneykoolina18.html

Werner has posted lots of photos of the resort as well on his different Aulani reports.

There is a small shopping center directly across the street with an ice cream parlor and an ABC store (which is like a tiny Hawaiian Walmart...little bit of everything! Toiletries, beach towels, sandwiches, yogurt, ice cream, wine, etc.) Plus the bbq place mentioned. There are other shops but I'm not remembering which ones, I just avoid because I know they are overpriced LOL.

In the same area is a Roy's, but that is definitely not cheap. (upscale fusion Asian-Pacific type food) Otherwise everything else is an exit back in Kapolei, so you may want to stop there and hit Target/Costco,etc for snacks/drinks before the resort. Kapolei is only a few minutes drive from Ko'olina and has everything.

If you will have a car, the city of Kapolei is approx 5-10 minutes away from Aulani. Many restaurants are in that city including some well known chain restaurants (Outback, Chili's, etc)

Kapolei BBQ

And of course, there are standalone restaurants outside of the shopping centers as well.

Ohh I love Aloha Salads, Menchies and Genki Sushi!!! Oh and Boston's too, yum!!!! Great info, Spleen!!!

Has anyone been able to find out more about the quick service options? The official website makes it seem like they are mostly for lunch.

Across the street is also a Mexican restaurant. We went there for dinner in June. (we stayed next door at the Marriott).

Our DS will be honeymooning there and we will be spending 10 days there after they return so we are very interested in any information about the area.

Does anyone know how much a case of Coke would cost at Target? I saw on Mousesavers that the refillable mug is going to cost $33. I am trying to do the math to see what will work best for us.

I've seen them on sale 3 or 4 for $12. They aren't more than $5 for a 12 pack not on sale. We do have a $.06 deposit ($.05 is refunded if you take them to the recycle truck) so add in the deposit when pricing. 2 liters run about $2-3 unless on sale for $1, which happens. Plus deposit LOL!

Spleen-is it a Menchies by Ward? We also go to Yogurtland in Pearl City...I think that's what it's called, I get them mixed up LOL! I think they have Hello Kitty stuff there.

Thanks! That is about what it is here expect for the deposit.

I agree about the price of the 12-pack - was at Target today and picked up 12 packs of Coke (Zero Cherry) for 3 for $11.

Yup, that's the other Menchies, at Ward. We have a Yogurtland near us but I don't like it as much as Menchies - think Menchies has better flavors and better toppings IMHO. But heck, either are certainly better than a stick in the eye! :goodvibes
