If he can go down to the beach to smoke a cigar (since the beaches in Hawaii are public). Not saying this is something I endorse…but it's his vaca too and he likes to take his book or Kindle or whatever and a beer and go smoke a cigar & read sometimes. Anybody know or should I call the resort to ask?!

Mr Google told me that smoking has been prohibited on the beaches at Ko Olina Resort since it was first developed. In addition, effective this year, smoking is now prohibited on all Honolulu city and county beaches.

Q: What is the smoking policy at Aulani?
A: This Resort is a smoke-free environment, excluding designated outdoor smoking locations. A $250 to $500 room recovery free (plus tax) will be charged for smoking in Guest rooms, on balconies or on patios.

Please check with the Front Desk for information about designated outdoor smoking locations.

I would check with the resort to see if cigars are permitted in the smoking areas as sometimes cigars are prohibited.

Sad to hear you can't smoke down at the beach. I liked going down there with my wife and a nice bottle of wine and relaxing with a nice cigar.

I have never had an issue smoking a cigar at any of the designated smoking areas. I'd rather smell a nice cigar (or pipe) than a cig any day!

Thanks guys (and Mr Google)!! I'll let him know he's out of luck on this trip!
