Aulani Cancel?

So we know Aulani is closed through the end of September but my reservation for the 3rd week is still showing. How long before DVC show the cancellation and how long before they deposit the points back to our account (or whatever they are going to do with them)? I tried chatting with member services a day or two ago but they didn't know anything.
 
It seems to be happening about 2 weeks ahead of time. You do not need to wait for them. Call and cancel yourself unless you are hoping that something changes.
 
I do not want to cancel myself because I will loose points. Better to let them do it (at least that's my understanding).

What if they don't? HI has extended teh quarantine through the end of Sept but are potentially allowing resort bubbles where you'd have to stay at the resort and wear a tracker. I doubt Disney does this but it's an interesting concept.

There is no difference in what happens to points if you cancel vs them.

I had a few trips that fell within times when exceptions to points were made and all my points were treated the same way they would had if I allowed Disney to cancel.

The only time it would be different is if Aulani is open..and even then I think it’d be the same at this point.. and since it appears it’s already been determined to be closed at time of your trip, then you can cancel as well.
 
Dean, I do not think they will open as long as the 14 day quarantine is in place. If it was I would take the test instead but I do not think it will come to that. Thanks for the update Sandisw. We used a few 2018 points which I thought we would automatically loose if we cancelled (vs them). I will have to give them a call and maybe see if we can just move it out a couple months.

Yes, banked 2018 points are being extended to November 30th, 2020 for all.
 
I'm not sure HI has started allowing testing instead of quarantine but they have talked about it and it could start as early as 1 Oct. I too am not sure what options you pick up by waiting as they won't extend banked points differently either way but they would likely let you bank any applicable points even if past the banking deadline.

Somebody else who had a reservation for Sept just had their reservation cancelled this weekend and were told DVC is cancelling them 2-3 weeks ahead. MS does not send out emails when they cancel so you just have to check online.
 
Thanks for the info. I know at this point we can't "test out" When that time comes I know it may still be a challenge getting tests. It's not the cheapest thing (over $200) but if you live in a state that has trouble getting tests back in a timely manner I know of a company that does the PCR test, all online (well of course they fedex a saliva test to you) but it's a 72 hour turn-a-round. Not sure if I can post links or not on here.

Mine was also cancelled 2 weeks out. I was told to let them cancel then call and ask to talk with a superviSor about my soon to expire points and they very nicely told me to shove it my points would expire or I could go to WDW.
