I am planning a family trip to see beautiful Alulani next summer & hope to make ressies soon.

Are reservations hard to get? Does the arrival day or time matter? Our dates are pretty flexible.

Since this is such a long plane ride from where we live on the East coast, we plan to break it up with a stopover in California (maybe 2-3 Cali days on either end).

I hope to be able to get a reservation at the 7 month window and avoid lots of traffic/long check-in waits if possible.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Travel experts: WWYD? Best arrival day?

Thank you!!

We just got back from a 6-nt stay. We arrived Saturday (but too late in the day to use the pools and such), and left on Friday.

For us, there was a huge difference between Sunday (weekend) and the rest of the week. It was really crowded on Sunday. However, since you are going in the summer, the days of the week might not matter too much as the resort will probably be at capacity. I will say that arriving on Saturday was nice because there was no traffic driving in from HNL.

Make sure you call first thing on the first day of the 7month window. I waited a few hours and wasn't able to get the first day for the room category I was looking for (Island View studio). We were flexible and just changed the dates, but summer is crowded. If you call right at 7month window and are flexible you should be ok.

We were there 10 days (over 2 weekends) and it was definitely busier on the weekends. We met a lot of "locals" who came just for 1 or 2 nights on a mini holiday.

Thanks for the info. :thumbsup2

I was wondering the same thing. We are staying at a Westin in Waikiki Sat and Sun night and moving to Aulani Monday. If we leave around 10 am will there still be bad traffic?

I would stay over in CA on your way there to adjust to the time change. I can't imagine being on East Coast time in HI. It's bad enough that CA is 3 hours ahead, which means I wake up there at 4am.

We did the CA stopover on our June trip (San Diego going, DL coming home) but I don't know if you ever really adjust to the time. We found the place to be hopping every morning by 7am and a ghost town after 9pm :)
