We're looking into Aulani for a 2015 vacation. Our travelling party has special diets (vegan) and life-threatening food allergies to all nuts and peanuts. Does anyone know if the restaurants at Aulani are as accommodating (and reliable) as Disney restaurants in the parks? Are any of the restaurants across the street from Aulani allergy-friendly? Would it be worth it to rent DVC points and get a suite with a kitchen? Is there a grocery store nearby?

Any details you have would be greatly appreciated.

We have been to Aulani 5 times with DD13 (egg, dairy, tree nut and peanut allergies). I cannot speak to vegan items, but they have done well for our DD13's allergies. Not as accommodating as WDW, but our experiences have been better than DLR. We have found that they have been better with each visit. We still get a 1 bedroom villa and use the kitchen for at least one meal a day. Across the street is an ABC store affiliate and they do have quite a bit of food for a small store. I should also note that although DD13 has tree nut allergies, macadamia nut isn't one of them, so this may complicate things if you deal with this allergy also. We have had good luck finding out ingredients at the quick service locations and a chef has come to talk to us at the two table service restaurants. We usually eat at least one meal at Ushio-Tei, at the Marriott next door, and Yuzu Sushi across the street. This may not help with vegan dining, but it might be worth checking out the menus of these and other menus of restaurants in the area. DD13's allergies are pretty severe, but we have not had a reaction at the restaurants at Aulani, the Marriott, or the two restaurants across the street. I hesitate to make a blanket recommendation because something can always go wrong, but we feel comfortable at these establishments. We have also had good luck at Waikiki restaurants, but we tend to eat at Japanese establishments. Hopefully, someone with experience eating as a vegan will be able to help answer your other questions.
