hello everyone,
i am not a DVC owner but i am considering renting points for the first time possibly from davids rentals for a trip to aulani. Booking through davids rentals it would cost about $240 a night for a studio whereas a standard room through disney would be about $425. Not sure if davids price includes taxes but even if it didnt it would still be a huge savings which is why i am considering this. Are there hidden costs to renting points or anything i should know about dvc in aulani. Any advice for me would be great since this is all so new to me. Thanks

There are no hidden costs and there is no tax on the rental thru David's.

Any reservation may be made 11 months before the arrival date providing there is a DVC Member available who owns at that resort. That is the only limiting factor with any rental - whether thru Davids or from a member on the Rent/Trade Board here. Any member can assist 7 months before arrival, but availability may be limited at that point for some dates and accommodation types.

I'd contact David just prior to 11 months from the date you wish to arrive and see if they can assist with your rental.

Good luck! :)

Renting points from David means that you get a DVC reservation: you won't get daily housekeeping (like for a cash stay) and probably there is no refund policy if you need to cancel (not sure about this).
Moreover you are still renting from an owner: David will escrow half the money until you check in, but the owner still has full control on the reservation. They might cancel it with three mouse clicks. So many people rent DVC points without any problem, but the risk, even if small, is there.

No housekeeping wouldnt bother me. My only convern is what happens if we run out of towels or shampoo. Would we be able to get more or are we out of luck. If the deal goes south does davids compensate in anyway?

You'll get new towels and toiletries on day four. Laundry facilitates are free (you need your own detergent) if you need clean towels before then. If you think you'll run out of shampoo you'll need to bring your own.

I think part of the protection is that the owner gets the second half upon checkin. If there is no reservation I think you get that half back and you'd likely have a breach on contact (or David would) to potentially pursue. Chances that someone will cancel your reservation while using the broker are low.

I would think as a renter you'd have more protection renting through a service like David's than you would renting directly from an owner.

No DVC resorts get fresh towels every day unless you pay for them. They supply 1 bath towel per person and we have no issues using the same towel for 3 days and getting new ones on day # 4.

We always travel with our own travel size toiletries so the shampoo supply is not an issue for us...DS is really the only one who uses it. I bring my own "for color treated hair" products and DH shaves his head so he doesn't rely on shampoo.

I would think your biggest obstacle would be finding an Aulani owner who's looking to rent their points out. Non-Aulani owners can't book until 7 months so it will be a little trickier to get what you want that way (you may need to be a little more flexible with the type of unit you want or your dates).

David is a very reputable renter and will not cancel your reservation arbitrarily.
When we stay in DVC studios we usually have 2 bath towels per person for our stay, and at least 2 wash cloths and 2 hand towels.
