My family & I are toying with the idea of going to Disney World for a long weekend in August (possibly towards the end of the month for my birthday :cake: ).

1. How crowded are the parks at this time of year?
2. How hot does it get?
3. Are the parks open later in August?

The parks are much less crowded after the 15th because a lot of schools re-open that week.

It is about as hot as you can imagine. Relentlessly hot and humid, with a thunderstorm almost every afternoon which will last between 15 minutes and two hours, but will do nothing to cool things off. But as you can see from my signature, we love to go in mid-to-late August.

Here is a link to historical August hours for the last few years. By the end of August the hours are much shorter than the rest of the summer:

We went last week of August in 2003.

Parks weren't too crowded.

Weather was hot and rainy (see my rain thread).

Parks closed early - around 7 for MK. Check the official Disney site for hours. :)

Have a great trip. :teeth:

I been in August, and yes it is sooo humid, its actually better to keep moving than staying still. We have gone the last week of August before and it was pretty low crowds, its kind of weird actually. As before that I have always gone in peak or hoilday season, it was a suprise. Lots of British people we meet during that time as well, I am not sure if its always like that.

They are having the free dining deal for those staying onsite if that sways your decision any. This is our first end of August trip.

:goodvibes We are also making our first August trip. August usually gets a little less rain than July but it will be just as hot. I mean is there really a difference from 89 degrees and say 91? Friends of ours went last August and said that crowds were relatively light. So I say pack a poncho and a couple of bottles of water and have a good time.

The free dining promotion begins in August, so that may make crowds heavier. Lots of Florida schools begin in early August, so you won't have as many local kids, but there still will be lots of out of state kids there! There will be some heavy afternoon thunderstorms. It will be oppressively hot, but I believe July is too. I can't really notice a difference in temps. between July and August because the high humidity makes everyday feel the same. Both months have mid 90's everyday, and the rains do not cool it down in the least.

That being said, we go in the summer every year. We usually go in July because that is value season for the deluxes and because school reopens in early August and that means I have to go back to work! Just take it easy, drink more water than you think you need, and have a great time!

Thanks everyone for the info. Am trying to sway my family to go in August, and I did mention the free dining plan. That seemed to perk things up a little. If we go, great. If not, no big deal, as I'm already booked to go in November after Thanksgiving.
