My family is thinking about heading to DL at the very end of August, which is the same time we go when we go to WDW. What is the weather like in Anaheim at the end of August? Is there anything else I need to know about planning a trip during this time period? Thanks!

It will likely be very hot. Expect high 90's and possibly some humidity. If you always have ice water with you and you try to stay in the shade, it will be fine.

Sounds comparable to WDW at that time of the year then.
Not at all. See PP.

Plus, rain is much, MUCH less. Zero often times.

I have had many pleasant August visits to DLR. I cannot imagine going to WDW in August.

Like stated above it will be warmer in August (80s-90s) but we get no rain and humidity is pretty much never an issue. The end of August may be a bit on the warmer side as September is usually one of the warmest months in So-Cal. If you prepare for the same weather as WDW you'll definitely be more than equipped to handle what DLR can throw at you weather wise.

We are thinking this timeframe too. How are crowds in late August? Busy I know...but how busy?

HM may be closed for its NBC overlay. Many schools have started back by the end of August.

Its really hot. Also California generally has very little clouds in the sky so you may tan/burn a little more than you do at WDW.

We were there in May one year and it was around 100 Fahrenheit, which we were told is unseasonably hot. I found that it feels way hotter in the parks than it does outside the parks. If we were ever going to return to DLR during the summer months, we have our expectations set based on that experience. It is doable - you take pool time, you enjoy the inside rides, you drink LOTS of water and I also found wearing a good hat makes the world of difference when in the blazing sun is beating on the concrete ground!

I do agree with the lack of humidity too - there is very little there compared to the east coast - so it doesn't drain your energy nearly as much.

We went the last week of August in 2016 and it was not busy at all. Most of the local schools were back in by that time which I think helped. Crowds ticked up in the afternoons but nothing bad.

It was hot though. High 80s, low 90s every day and humid. HM will also be down for the halloween overlay.

That's good to know, thanks!

We almost always plan our trips for August. We are from the Seattle area and it never feels too hot. It's hot to be sure, but it makes the water rides that much more fun. And since you go from AC to AC with all the rides and buildings, it's not a big deal.

We went once when it was 103 degrees. I can't honestly say I remember it being an issue. Just bring a ton of water. We like to fill our camelback backpack up with ice and water. If you keep hydrated you keep cool.

As a pp said above, HM usually goes down sround the 3rd week of the month (the 20-somethingth) to install the Halloween overlay. The AP block for the lower passes is lifted around the third week, too, bringing in crowds, especially later in the day. School districts in southern California vary, so some schools are back in session by August, but others don't go back until much later. The annual CHOC Walk (a BIG fundraiser) is on Aug. 26th. Last year, DLR went back to the non-peak entertainment schedule by the last week of August (so nighttime entertainment on weekends only). This surprised many guests who were expecting the summer schedule to last until Labor Day.

Make sure to bring the sunscreen and Chapstick with sunscreen too. California's humidity isn't nearly as bad as Florida's humidity.

I got married in WDW August 2015 and spent over 20 days in the parks and then spent 8 days in DL in August 2016. For us DL was SOOOOO much more tolerable weather wise. If you're used to humidity like in Florida you probably won't even notice the humidity. I will say my ONE issue with it was that because I couldn't really feel myself sweating I wasn't drinking nearly as much water as I should the first couple of days. Once I increased my water consumption I felt even better and we did even longer park days. I get cold in air conditioning and kept a very light sweater in my purse for indoors (including shops) and waiting for parades in the evening. I didn't always need it and it wasn't cold by any means but the temperature does dip a lot more in DL than it does in WDW.
