We were going to take a trip in December of 2010 but Hotels are cheaper in August (staying at HRH) so we are debating going August 21-28. Do you think it's safe to say WWoHP will be open by then? Last I heard they were opening on Memorial Day. Also on a side note, we are originally from Texas so I can take the heat but how hot is it normally in August? (Our kids were raised in Virginia and have a different perspective than DH and I lol) Also what are the crowds like the last week of August? Have they started to slow down at all, bear in mind we have been at Christmas time before so would you say more or less than that? TIA and any advice is welcome!

Really? No opinions? I figured Metro or someone would be able to chime in :D

We've been to US/IOA several years in a row in late August and always have a GREAT time. Crowds are very low, but it is HOT, HOT, HOT. Doesn't bother me much, but you should hear my kids whine about it ;) . And it usually rains every afternoon for about an hour.

HP had better be open by then because we're planning to be there then too!

We were there in the 2nd week of August, 2009 and had a great time. It was somewhat hot for us Canadians but within a couple of days we were used to it. Parks were busy but this was no problem, even with no FOTL pass, because we always got to the parks before opening time and rode the best rides first. By the middle part of the day we were either relaxing at the pool, shopping, or watching shows.

August is hurricane season. In Aug. 2004 when visiting WDW we were caught by Charly but we only lost a day of touring (the Disney parks were actually only closed for 1/2 day, and that was for a direct hit by a major storm). I think that Orlando was hit by two more storms that year, which made it an exceptionally bad year, but most years there is *no* hurricane in Orlando.

The more I watch the current weather in Orlando, down around 50F, the more happy I am that we usually visit in the summer rather than the winter. It's hard to enjoy a raft ride or a day at the beach in that kind of weather.

BTW we heard that a lot of local schools start going back in session by the middle of August or so, which leads me to believe that the crowds will be noticeably smaller the later in the month you go. Of course the parks also start to cut back hours around this time (and probably the number of live shows) so you'll want to keep this mind.

Thanks, went ahead and booked our trip for the last week. Didn't even think about Hurricane season! Uh oh! We live on the East coast so we have seen a few but hope to see none on vacation! I will check park times out, thanks.

Yeah...In 2004 we had Charley, Jeanne and Frances all within about 8 weeks or so. Jeanne was the one that was bad in terms of rainfall. That storm parked off the coast and just sat there for almost a week!

We always go to Orlando in late August and LOVE it! In 2008, it poured all day every day, but we just plowed through. Low crowds are well worth the chance of a rain shower.
